I am related to Sean Wight (no 27) the Irishman from the 80's. My mum ( who's a Pommy) told how we are distant cousins, I was only 10. So Imagine his surprise when he came to a Footy clinic in Albury and a Freckled faced Blonded haired Aussie kid came up and said Im related to you. My mum just told me to mention his family names and she would fill him in.

As it turns out, we are related even if was distant, he thought it was great and took all my family in. As a result I had one of the best times of my life getting free tickets to games, finals and the Grand Final of 88. He also got me into the change rooms after games often and my family was invited to the after match functions where I meet all the players I worshipped. So its not surprising that Im Dees Mad.

Great deano74 thats why i started this just to hear any great stories.

When max walker started at world series cricket at waverly i used to go into the change rooms and meet all the players and i remember one time ian chapelle went out and when he came into the room he smashed his bat into the locker and swore and it scared me as i was only young.

I'm related to a bloke by the name of Wally Lock, most people haven't heard of him but he made the team of the century, which is a fair effort. The Lock's were a very strong footballing family, at one stage they fielded more than half of the local team were they lived. From stories I've heard Wally was a very impressive individual, pity he didn't pass his footy talent through to me, my skills were in a different sport.

Jarka, I remember Wally Lock very well. He was a very good footballer, but I don't think he made Melbourne's team of the century. I'll be happy to be corrected here.

I don't know that information either bobby, but I have an extract from my trusty Melbourne Listed Player Encyclopedia:

Madness, thanks for the info on Wally Lock. He did make the team of the century as an interchange. I have apologised to Jarka for jumping in too quickly on this one. Could you send me the info on my namesake, Bob McKenzie (!948-1955) from your MFC book. I would love to read it. Thanks mate.

Many thanks Madness. Robert was his correct title, but all his adoring fans referred to him as Bob or Bobby. His son played for the Dees a couple of decades later. Not as good as his old man though. Next to Barassi he was my favourite player.

I am entering round by round who played in each game. At present I'm up to 1936, the year Wally Lock debuted. I'm averaging about a year a day so you can follow his career (statistically speaking) if you wish.

Wally Lock

Down the bottom of the page you can click an a year to see his stats. Only 1936 is available so far but more will appear over the next few days.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
