Good call. Unheralded game.

I've been surprised to hear so many on here talk about him in the same breath as Windsor, Langford and Lindsay. I haven't seen anything close to that. But I really liked his game on Saturday.

Six possies is low, obviously, but as you said, kept presenting hard outside 50 and made smart decisions when he got it.

Also with Tholstrup TTD he was off the ground for 20 minutes with concussion protocols as well. Fortunately he was OK he is such a personable kid, loves to tackle as well.👍😁

He had a small moment of class where he marked the footy on the half back line and instantly used his opposite foot to hit a target up about 15 metres away...he's an interesting prospect is Koltyn, haven't really got my head around him just yet!

His opponent had 7 score involvements and 27 touches. If he was doing a tagging job, I wouldn't have thought he did a great job.

Thought his game was pretty overrated, but the most pleasing thing was (aside from early on), his ball use was better.

Yeah but only 5 clearances (season average of 9) and only 345 metres gained (season average of 435). Plus of the 27 touches only 9 were kicks (down from 13 average).

I reckon Serong will only have a handful of games this year with less impact than this.

Wasn't a great stopping game IMV. You want to keep them under 20 possessions and sub 5 score involvements I reckon.

Anyway, it was a better performance from Jack and something to build on. More to do with his better ball use than anything else IMO.

It wasn't meant to be necessarily. It was certainly to curb his influence, make his possessions less damaging and hurt them the other way.

JV did a great job

You'd be doing bloody well to keep him to under 20 touches. He's probably dropped under that one or twice in 4 years!

I do agree though.

I hadn't really factored in Jack's own score involvements, which equalled Serong's, and Jack also had one more direct goal assist (2).

So I think I might have underrated Jack's game.🤦

Indeed - was arguably one of the best games of career. All while negating Serong, Jack had:

  • A player rating of 19.9, behind on only Koz and Brayshaw (who had a phenomenal 26.2 points - Serong had 13.2)

  • 25 disposals (Serong 27)

  • 458 metres gained (Serong 345)

  • 10 contested possessions (Serong 13)

  • 5 clearances (Serong 5)

  • 7 inside 50s (Serong 3)

  • 7 score involvements (Serong 7)

That's some game for a bloke supposedly 'tagging' (which he wasn't really)- amazing he didn't get any coaches' votes.

But Viney also did damage the other way so it wasn’t a full negating role IMO.

Why are we even remotely concerned about what pick Essendon get from us in the draft?

What's done is done and in the whole scheme of things, it doesn't matter

Besides which, they gave us their 1st round pick last year and we drafted Lindsay with that pick

Remember it's just a number and at least 3 of the top 10 picks each year are busts. And that's factual, not an opinion

And Lindsay looks like he will be a fine player anyway

Don't sweat the small stuff

Future captain material and I don't like to anoint the young kids too early. He is a smooth operator on and off field.

All 4 Muskateers look to be switched on up top. And all 4 are either 18 or 19

We really should be looking at giving Jason Taylor some more picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the draft. On top of JT having the Midas Touch, we develop our youngsters very well these days

It's a better percentage play than recycling players from other clubs. We've got enough experience

And I'm with you on Lindsay. Excellent footy IQ and he's only just become eligible to vote!

You could easily argue that his scoring means it was a stellar tagging game.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
