Anyone who thinks Clarry doesnโ€™t want that more than anything, is crazy.

Clarry has never intentionally done anything to hurt the club. He is very aware of how much the club has done for him.

A new coach and another full pre season with hopefully no interruptions and I truly believe we will see the best of Oliver again.

As the season went on and he got fitter you could see glimpses of his brilliance return.

It would be heartbreaking to see Clarry dominate for another club. Even worse if we pay for him to do it.

I get the feeling the only big names that may be considered for trading are Tracc, May and Lever and that would of course depend on whether they are being chased and what is being offered.

ย

I reckon the last month or so he started to show a bit of the Clarry of old. I'm definitely keeping him if he wants to stay.

Coming from an strength and conditioning background (TAC Cup and AFL) myself, his turbulent off-field issues and then injuries last year can't be ignored as to reasons why he has battled to reach is peak form in recent seasons... but he really seems to be past all that (hopefully).

Let's not forget how good this bloke was at his peak and what he achieved in just 6-7 years in the competition. Best midfielder we've had since Flower and daylight to second. He has only just turned 28, it is not like he is 32 and unlikely to reach that peak again. Keep keep keep!

Gettable saying Tracc has to be traded. How about NO.

Clayton Oliver has revealed he wants to remain at Melbourne next season, insisting he would like to repay the club and his teammates including skipper Max Gawn for helping him โ€œsort my [censored] outโ€.

The Demons wonโ€™t make any firm decisions on the future of several of its high-profile contracted players with trade currency until a new coach is appointed before grand final day.

But while Oliver is uncertain about what that might mean for him heading into next monthโ€™s trade period, he indicated his preference was to stick with Melbourne, where he still has five years remaining on a deal worth more than $1.2m per season.

And he paid tribute to sacked coach Simon Goodwin, stressing that he owes his AFL career to his former mentor, as he vowed to do everything he can to return to his peak performance after a personally challenging past three seasons.

โ€œI would love to stay at Melbourne, but whatever happens happens,โ€ Oliver told this masthead at the Moonee Valley Racing Clubโ€™s Spring Launch. โ€œIโ€™m in a good place now.

โ€œIโ€™m loyal โ€ฆ I love the club, theyโ€™ve done everything for me.

โ€œI love my teammates and I love the fans whoโ€™ve always been good to me. I want to stay, so fingers crossed.โ€

Oliver, 28, is one of Melbourneโ€™s most decorated players, winning four best and fairests in his first seven seasons before personal and off-field issues saw his form decline in recent years.

He has been part of trade speculation across the past two off-seasons โ€“ with Adelaide expressing interest in him at the end of 2023 and he met with Geelong players after the Cats made a strong pitch to him before last yearโ€™s trade period when the Demons actively looked to off-load him for a time before changing their mind.

It is uncertain yet as to whether Melbourne would seek to trade Oliver, which would be difficult given his lucrative paycheck until the end of 2030, or retain him.

But Oliver stressed he could not thank the club enough for helping him get through the tough times, and even though he was shattered by Goodwinโ€™s sacking last month, he made it clear he wants to buy into the road ahead for the Demons.

โ€œGoody was great,โ€ Oliver said. โ€œHe did everything for me.โ€

โ€œI owe my whole career to him โ€ฆ (I) won four best and fairests, two coaches (association) awards and we won a premiership (2021).

โ€œI stuffed up a few times in my career, but he always had my back and the whole club has always looked after me. I owe so much to Goody and Gawy, and Melbourne.โ€

Asked about the potential of Nathan Buckley taking over as the clubโ€™s new coach, Oliver said: โ€œI donโ€™t really care who gets the job โ€ฆโ€

โ€œThe culture of the Dees has copped a bit of a hiding (in the media), but weโ€™re not that bad.

โ€œWe werenโ€™t too far away. Weโ€™ll get back there again.โ€

Oliver struggled for fitness and form in 2023 and 2024 and was again modest by his own lofty standards this year.

But he started to show a glimpse of better form again across the last six weeks, where he had four 100-plus ranking point games in that time.

โ€œI think I was slowly getting back there, not last year (2024, when he struggled), but this year was a bit better,โ€ he said. โ€œIโ€™ll be back.โ€

That was an emotional read.

I've gone from being neutral on who we trade to wanting Clarry to stay!

me frikn too! thatโ€™s the heart of what we need now.

It's nice to hear someone in the playing group genuinely expressing that they need to be better...and sounding motivated to do it. And coming from someone who has previously shown that he can be one of the best in the business, that is significant.

Who knows what will end up happening with him or Petracca but more of this attitude in general please.

ย

You feel for Clarry because deep down he probably realises if not for his struggles and the dip in form the club might well have played finals the last 2 years, potentially won another premiership and Goodwin would probably still be coach.

Petracca manages his own social media account with the help from his wife with the cooking content and filming. He was on record in confirming this in a 360 interview last year.

Itโ€™s all Petraccas work, there is no social media manager.

Interestingly (well I thought it was interesting) he doesnโ€™t create his recipes, someone does it for him. Heโ€™s like Milli Vanilli

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
