I think Sestan and Adams could be ready for a call up. Fullarton might add something different. Verrall has shown some improvement against highly rated opponents. We won’t know if they are ready yet until they are tried.

yes, limited minutes, but played full time as an inside mid when he did

he's not quick, but he extracts the ball and is a good handballer in traffic

the issue is who goes out? our inside mids of oliver, petracca, viney aren't injured - i suppose he might replace sparrow, but he's much more of a pure inside mid than a half-forward who tags the key running back like sparrow

from what i saw:

• fullarton must come in this week - he's really playing the part of a leading key forward

• sestan is getting better in a new role and is a great kick

• adams is a good kick but needs to add a fair whack of muscle to his frame to play key back

• brown's second half was very good with repeat defensive efforts but he is not a very good kick

• verrall battled away as an undersized ruck

• johnson works hard in patches, goes missing, and gets his hands to the ball but drops a lot of marks

• two weeks in a row campbell has not played after half time

• mentha has pace but runs himself into difficult situations

• i don't think any of woewodin, billings, howes look like afl-ready players

• the only thing stopping laurie from being delisted is that he's contracted for next season

Fullo should be straight in for JVR on that performance.

Some say he can't ruck and yes would probably get monstered at 666 and/or a major around ground role. But up forward as a chop out he held his own and even won a few to advantage.

Culley will be an interesting watch as he builds up his fitness and tank over the coming weeks. Looks to be clean and quick with hands and has some serious wheels on the receive from stoppage. Played limited time though and probably at least three (plus+) weeks away. Hard to gauge his defensive side from just one limited entre' game also.

Adams a potential in for Petty this week to give him a look at what the next level is like or too early / risky?

Laurie did a few good things but a bit too quiet in that first half for mine.

Thought Brown had a pretty decent second half. Involved in plenty and managed to work his way through congestion, as well as getting to plenty of loose ground ball.

He really hunted the pill and the ball carrier and could bring a level of attack and aggression at the drop around half forward and maybe as a sweeper or pocket player at stoppage similar to a Nibbla type role imo.

That could free up the likes of Tracc to play there more natural offensive role. Much prefer him coming in vs say Billings or Spargo at this point. Spargo needs plenty of game time at Casey prior to another call up imo.

And while AJ may not have had an outstanding game i just love the attack, effort, tackling and aggression that this bloke brings. He plays to hurt and those around know he's about. Something sorely lacking in our forward line much of the time. The moment he shows any sign of form i'd have him straight in. At this point that would be for Fritta. Hec i'd probably take the punt and just stick him in there regardless. Maybe as sub?

I left Baldi out of the votes but his second half energy and attack on the oppo was pretty solid and, similar to AJ's attitiude, i loved the aggression.

Baldi, Brown & AJ are all competitive beasts and you know they'll bring pretty crazy effort most weeks. Can probably throw Cross in there as well.

Sesto is looking more at home down back and is a lovely kick at times. At other times he tends to pick the wrong options, biting off more than he can chew and turns the ball over in dangerous places a bit too often for mine.

Reckon he needs more time / experience at VFL level in this role to work that out of his game before a call up to AFL level where the oppo's closing speed to intercept & spoil is often alot quicker vs VFL.

Likely to get found out right now and then he'll just be sent back again and asked to work on the above. Not far away though if he can clean that side up a bit.

If he could play as a mid or hhf he'd be a handy asset for the kick coming inside 50 which he can weight / slot beautifully at times.

He can also roost it from 65 so I would probably give him a shot.

Would love to see Jai Culley get a chance with the Melbourne Demons AFL side.

Hopefully, he earns a chance over the next few weeks.

I agree though. He is capable of some superlative work around goals at times.

However, he was trialled there for sometime earlier on and failed to bed down a spot. Lacked wheels and a pressure / defensive side maybe?

Also been trialled through the middle a bit.

This is looking like last chance saloon for him down back. Or maybe not who knows. But he's been a journeyman in a positional sense so far at Casey.

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats.

The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide.

Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

There was some more good news and some bad for the Demons in the tall timber department. For the second week in a row, Tom Campbell failed to see out the game but his understudy in Verrall stepped up with 12 disposals, a goal and 28 hitouts. He is starting to play with greater confidence and intensity.

Another player to catch the eye and to come into contention for a trip to SA would have to be Kynan Brown who might have only picked up 17 disposals but his game high 11 tackles was significant given the lack of tackling pressure from his Melbourne counterparts later that night.

We also saw some good returns from Blake Howes (26 possessions and nine marks), Oliver Sestan (22 disposals, nine marks) and Bailey Laurie (19 touches). Jed Adams’ development as a key defender is also coming along nicely.

Of the Casey contingent, Mitch Hardie was impressive on debut against his old club with 26 possessions and Riley Bonner was close behind him. Patrick Cross was also busy and continues to improve.

The Demons return to their home ground with another tough challenge against the UWS Giants on Saturday morning.
