Just caught up with the podcast - great work fellas.  Am now feeling even more upbeat about the season ahead.

Makes me laugh that Clown Cornes can’t see how we could be better. How about a revamped game plan? Clarry and ‘Tracc reborn?  The additions of S, M, L and XL (with three to contribute early?), plus Campbell, Johnson, Henderson and Culley adding depth/cover?  Not to mention an easier fixture (on paper, at least)?

Anyway, I recall Goody confiding (to Gary Lyon?) in ‘21 that we could go close with a good run with injuries?  I’m getting similar vibes.

Off to a flying start to the season guys.  Absorbing listening as always.  Thank you!

Had to give up last night listening to Hannan interview. I shouldve tried for longer.

Just listened to full podcast. Excellent work! Thanks.

Apologies.

By the time I sat down to start recording, I realized that several of my programs needed updates. On top of that, I had to reconnect my mixer and reconfigure the audio settings on both my computer and laptop. Just when I thought I was ready, my mixer unexpectedly forced a software update, which meant adjusting my audio settings all over again—this time within multiple programs.

To make matters worse, I had to reset my Skype password to take calls, and the two-factor authentication was a nightmare. It was linked to an email account for which I didn’t have the password saved on this computer, so I had to guess from four options—almost having to reset that one too.

After finally getting everything up and running, I forgot to hit play on the stream.

When I finished recording, I discovered that the audio file from my mic’s channel had been corrupted. Fortunately, I had some backups, but the sound quality isn’t great.

It was the tech equivalent of a failed fitness test—looks like I’ll have to wait another week before making my return to the seniors.

4-6?

A couple of things:

There are plenty of times when players are rested/injured there is a silver lining. Maybe I have misremembered but when Gawn was injured in 2017 I got the feeling the midfield knew they had to step up, and step up they did! And that accelerated their progress into becoming the best midfield in the league circa 2021. If Gawn gets rested maybe it will help someone on the fringe of the leadership group to show he'll be a great future captain. (And similar to Rivers last year and with some in 2017 Gawnless games may improve players or team strategy.)

Also re Gawn I don't think being nasty works well anymore for coaches. I hope Goody and co will tear strips off players when absolutely necessary. But I'm glad he doesn't seem to fly off the handle. I know personally I hate being aggressively criticized (choose some other method.) As long as Gawn is critical when needed I think someone whose worst season when captain still managed almost 50% wins and whose best year at the helm had him holding up the premiership cup is welcome to continue as captain.

Finally how often does 14th or 5th last finish with so many wins? (Or with 10-10.5 wins in 22 games). It wouldn't have taken too many tweaks in that final round for Melbourne to finish a few places higher. We would have still been exactly the same standard with these scenarios. But suddenly our draft picks are 2 or 3 positions worse and maybe even our fixture this year is noticeably harder.

I really love the passion Tmac engenders!

He is one of my all time favourite demons of the modern age.

I cant believe foresee he would be trying to run down Charlie Cameron (queue John Denver) but his abilityto  plug(!) holes makes him a crucial part of 2025.

Again, listening this morning was so much better than Raf Epstein! Top effort guys.

Thanks Andy, George and Binman great listen and my good vibes have been reinforced, love Langford and what he brings to the club, plus XL, Sharpe, TC , AJ, Hendo and now Culley plus we have The Duke and Kolt to squeeze back into the side.👍😁

Footy is not the be-all and end-all in my life but I realised how grateful i was when it came back in that weird Covid-affected 2020 season after a few months of humdrum footy-less winter. We're now at that stage of pre-season I'm getting excited for the new season. I've heard the podcast; i saw some of the other match simulations, I saw ours. Cripes, I'm now even looking forward to watching some of the early footy panel shows! Hurry up March 6 and March 16 (and thanks George, Andy and Binman for being another step in the pre-season wind-up.)

  • Demonland changed the title to PODCAST: Match SIM vs North Melbourne

Thanks again to the three of you for the return of the mighty DL Podcast.

Much appreciated.

Here we go. Strap ourselves in for a season that could end up anywhere.

Thank you for a great podcast, boys!  (And thanks for battling on in the face of various tech hurdles, Andy!)

I've already listened twice (don't tell my boss haha).  Over the break I'd stopped listening to podcasts with as much frequency, but now I realise I just had a Demonland podcast shaped hole in my heart ❤️ 💙

Sounds like an old interview is playing

Was that David Williams? Nine goals at the ‘G v North Melbourne in ‘86.
Killed ‘em.

I just listened to the poddy and agree with everyone else… great job, guys.

Just wanna touch on a couple of things Binman said…

JT when selecting rookies, (Paraphrasing) looks for skills, footy IQ etc. but (still paraphrasing) he places a lot of weight on their personalities. This is true. It’s no coincidence that without exception every new kid is levelheaded, mature, polite and respectful. I’d be surprised to hear that any of them party or act up at all. Hell, *Luker goes to bed at 8pm every night and sleeps for 10-11 hours and has a 2-hour nap every day! Ok maybe they’re not all like that but they’re humble, lovely people dedicated to being their best on and off the field.

The other thing is about Shane. I too hate the comments about drafting him being a bust. And you know who else wouldn’t like it? Max, that’s who. At a Q&A recently in Shepparton (I wasn’t there but my friend was) Max was asked which players he considers will have a great year despite currently flying under the radar. Max said Shane for one and went on to praise him highly. Of course, this was pre-injury.

The other player Max named was Jibba (Jack Billings) and again he heaped praise on him. Maybe we all need to hit the reset button on our perception of our players 🤷‍♀️

i maintain it takes at least two pre-seasons and one in-season to adopt to any new club's systems

i'm confident billings will be a good player for us in 2025 and beyond

mcadam's situation is very disappointing; 2026 will be a long time to wait to get a clean 'run' at it

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
