I have been refreshing DL every 10 mins for the past 6 hours for the training report. How many more refreshes do you think before the update will be posted?

The situation is getting way out of hand. Sporadic reports, late reports, almost no reports, not to mention the state of some of the reports when they finally arrive. It’s 2.47, any report this late had better be very good. I’m sick of needing to point out the basics.

Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one .

I think Kolt looks like he’s improving but many weeks still away. It was good to see Caleb Windsor. He ran laps. Difficult to see how close or if he will make round one.

In the probable team  I noticed the following players – Steven May,  JvR, Christian Salem, Trac, Jake Lever, Disco Turner, Max Gawn, Clayton Oliver, Ed Langdon, Jake Bowey, Harvey Langford, Blake Howes, Trent Rivers, Bayley Fritsch, Tom Sparrow, Harry Petty and Kade Chandler.

Then there seems to be a contest for the three wing spots out of these four players – Jack Billings, Harry Sharp, Xavier Lindsay and Woey. They constantly changed teams and I think one may be unlucky unless there’s another injury and the unlucky one will be the sub.

The defenders( as you can see from above ) seem set and with the seventh defender they are possibly waiting to see if Windsor will make it or not. Also the seventh forward is difficult to know at the moment and whether they decide to go tall or  short. In the match simulation both Jeffo and AJ played in the possible team only. I did notice Gawn at times was playing up forward so whether they decide to go for two ruckman I’m not sure. Bailey Laurie also did okay for the possibles and perhaps could be sub or unfortunately may just miss.

So overall it was a lighter Wednesday training than normal with just 1/2 a match simulation and the free choice activities and I guess they’re gearing up for the game on Saturday. It was nice to see Trac in full training even though he wore the hat as did a few others.

I was impressed by the speed of Langdon and Oliver also got heaps of the ball. Tom Campbell certainly keeping Gawny  on his toes, which is great.

Also lack of live reporting.. i mean its 2025, why don't we have multiple live video phone feeds from people who are located at key vantage points around the ground?

Looks like you'll have to go down yourself, Roost, and set the standards 😉

Excellent analysis from you Mr. Analyser and given that you haven't mentioned Jack Henderson, can one assume that he hasn't made it back on the red eye from Perth yet?

Also nothing about whether the local snake population was out and about today.

I’m aiming to get down prior to the season commencing. I’m really being forced to to be honest.

Good. Because we don't want too much cockle-doodle-dooing from you.

You need to remember that people do reports on training voluntarily, and if you want quicker and better, then I suggest you do them.

Nothing like been modest, and confident in your own abilities.

Gee Tarax, that one takes me back a few years!

Lou Richards’ header on the back page of the Herald Sun, after a particularly memorable QB thrashing by our Demons over Collingwood in the early 1960s: “Magpies Today, Feather Dusters Tomorrow” .

It must have hurt Louie so much to pen those lines.  I love them, and long may the theme continue!

I asked Chat GPT (as well as requesting a positive spin): The Melbourne Demons hit the track at Casey Fields today for an intense and focused training session, giving fans a glimpse of their preparations for the 2025 AFL season. The team worked through a variety of drills, honing their skills, refining strategies, and pushing their fitness levels to ensure they’re in top shape for the year ahead.

A standout moment was the inclusion of new recruit Jack Henderson, who seamlessly integrated into the squad. His energy and determination were on full display, and he’s already showing great promise as a valuable addition to the team.

While Shane McAdam will unfortunately miss the season due to injury, the team remains united and determined, with players stepping up to fill the void and drive the club forward. The Demons are rallying together, showcasing their depth and resilience as they prepare for a strong campaign.

The club has shared a training gallery from today's session, allowing fans to relive the action and see their favorite players in action. With the season fast approaching, the energy around the club is electric, and excitement is building for what promises to be an exciting year for the red and blue!

Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to back the Dees in 2025! 🔴🔵

Here's the slightly less positive spin from Chat GPT:

The Melbourne Football Club’s Doomsday Training Run at Casey Fields

February 19, 2025. The once-proud Melbourne Football Club, now a shadow of its former self, staggers onto the training grounds at Casey Fields, where even the bright sun seems to shy away from the looming clouds of despair. The air, thick with tension and dust, mirrors the state of the team as they face an unrelenting onslaught of injuries, misfortune, and dwindling hope.

The training session begins with a faint attempt at match simulation, but the players seem distant, their minds haunted by the growing list of absentees. Jack Viney’s laps are slow and labored, an eerie reflection of the team’s decline, a reminder that the once vibrant energy of the squad has now been replaced by a palpable sense of dread. Even the simplest drills seem like an impossible task as the atmosphere grows colder, more foreboding with each passing moment.

Shane McAdam’s Achilles injury—an ominous sign—looms large over the club. He’s been sent off for surgery, leaving the team without another key player as they hurtle toward the abyss of an injury-ravaged season. The whispers of discontent grow louder; every player feels the weight of the world on their shoulders. There’s no respite.

In the background, the arrival of Jack Henderson feels more like a desperate attempt to fill a void than a true solution to the ongoing crisis. The club’s future seems uncertain, and each training session feels like one more nail in the coffin. The fans, once hopeful, now watch with growing unease, wondering if their beloved club will ever rise from the ashes or if this is simply the beginning of a long, drawn-out fall into obscurity.

As the session winds down, the team retreats, their energy spent. The future of the Melbourne Football Club appears bleak, a far cry from the glory days that now feel like distant memories. No one speaks of the premiership dream anymore. In the shadows of Casey Fields, all that remains is the crushing weight of reality: the end may be closer than anyone dares to admit.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?
