2025 AFL Rising Star Candidates

Featured Replies

There are more than 180 players at the various AFL clubs in the running for the 2025 AFL Rising Star Award. This year Melbourne has a relatively low number of players eligible for this year's award - 9 - compared to 13 last year. They are:-

Jed Adams
Kynan Brown
Matthew Jefferson
Luker Kentfield
Harvey Langford
Xavier Lindsay
Ricky Mentha
Oliver Sestan
Will Verrall

The 2 L’s - Langford and Lindsay - appear to be our best candidates.

I think Brown will surprise a few if he gets into the side.

Would need a few goals (and probably a highlights package worthy run down tackle) in an early game to catch the eyes of the panel. Hope to see it, but pinning more hopes on Harvey Langford building a season worthy of taking out the award.

Tholstrup is another, as per betting odds

From the article the eligibility criteria is :

Players are required to be under 21 years of age as of January 1, 2025 and must have played no more than 10 career games already to be eligible for the Rising Star.

This means Tholstrup is eligible provided he doesnt play a game.  😁

He’s played 10 games exactly so will be eligible in 2025

Thanks the zero hanger definition is a touch ambiguous as they left out 'at the start of the season'.

On that basis, he’s clearly eligible and IMO is a definite chance for the Rising Star in 2025.

Zerohanger is a bit dodgy for info at the best of times

Kolt is on both Sportsbet & TAB odds for the rising star @ $51 so defs eligible

Demonland does not encourage you to bet or gamble.

I won’t be gambling but I might place a wager on XL at the generous odds of $34.00.

I’m also shocked that five clubs in Collingwood, Geelong, GWS Giants, Hawthorn and Sydney currently have no candidates among the top 27 favourites for the award. The first two have aging lists so they are investigating heavily on their current crop of players to get them home.

Unless you're Titus O'Reily, of course.

Post of 2025 so far.

Kolt strikes me as more the Petracca type, i.e. we won't see him explode until season 4-5 when his body really matures. He'll then beating most other senior players athletically and we've all seen his effort levels on display already.

Wonder what sort of odds they would give for Jeffo?

Could be interesting if he got a couple of five-fors.
Has to make the team first.
