Gee, he's gone hard:

There have been no smiles at Melbourne for a very long time. Only disappointment, in-fighting, and most damningly, hurt. Someone needs to take control of this mess, and in my eyes, Gary Pert, the CEO since 2018, needs to be removed in order to begin that process.

Plenty in 2021

Prior to Pert's appointment which was massaged by the AFL, the front runner for Melbourne CEO was then footy manager Josh Mahoney who was the football department's preference.

If Pert departs I hope Mahoney, who is currently at AFL HQ, is at least given the chance to be heard should he be interested.

Josh Mahoney was a cancer in the club and went to Essendon and was equally problematic.

Peter Jackson rated him very highly.

On MMM this morning Gawn seemed to suggest the leaks were coming from the list mgmt committee (10 people). Surely the club needs to identify the rat and get rid of them.

My concern is around the retention of Oliver should that arise against all the negativities of the moment insofar that will Clayton be able to contribute his 120% to the game onfield - attitudinally moreso than physically - and who, other than Gawny and Tracca will be able to inspire him to his past excellence to that end?

What makes you say that? I've only ever heard good things (albeit most of that is on here or through the media).

Mahoney left Essendon because he clashed with Dodoro. Do you really think Mahoney was the problem there?

Clarry will not be a problem if he can get fit and his famous determination will always be a feature of his play.

That is also up to the club to have him cherry ripe to return to his best on ball football.

Once the footy starts Clarry will have plenty to do and all or most of the claptrap subsides he can and will concentrate accordingly.

If only these boring and smart a..e journalists looked at Essendon and Pies issues as critically as ours they would not have to keep inventing statements every third day to keep these alleged bushfires burning.

How do you know Pert's appointment was massaged by the AFL? That's not my understanding.

That's strong

As others have said, never heard anything but complimentary words said about Mahoney. That's not to say that FTB is wrong, but I trust PJ. I'd argue the best administrator we've ever had.

Maybe FTB heard it from sources that Mahoney held to account? We certainly don't have that sort of discipline anymore within our FD.

oh, i've heard plenty of bad words about mahoney / pert / jackson

but i've heard plenty of positive words about them all too

very hard to please everyone all the time

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
