IMO belly was best on ground today the only person who rivaled him was green, but bell had a direct opponent and shut him down, while green played on the wing.

did not concede a goal all day (the only goal welsh kicked was while ward was picking him up).

his spoiling from behind was fantastic, his drive out of the backline was awesome. 6 tackles and 20 touches. 10 kicks and 10 handballs.

i've taken off the belly blinkers and i'll tell you what he is looking even better when you can compare him to everyone else.

and 3 of bells tackles directly stopped goals, all 3 on welsh im pretty sure but yep, best on game with green

Good thread - simply outstanding, brave as the day is long and just gives his all for the club.... any Belly knockers want to post some humble pie?

Did not get beaten in a one on one contest all day. Helped out the other defenders. Saved 2 almost certain goals. Kicking was accurate. Evasive skills were excellent. Best game i've seen him play. B.O.G for me.

best game ive seen him play. he was exceptional in his second efforts too, thats what we want to see.

Daniel Bell was not good today

He was phenomenal

Heard on 3AW in the car on the way home that he had 10 1%ers, amazing effort.

He was clearly 2nd BOG today behind Green, they both were excellent.

That decision making process of his that appeared questionable early on in his career appears to be very much on the improve - his timing and his reading of the play have also come on massively this year.

one of the best things ive seen your type in ages Y_M you are right on the spot some of his spoils today were top quality,

looked to me best on ground maybe behind Bruce IMO

I heard 11 ;)

There are a few of us who have been behind Belly since the start. I'm glad that today, his 38th career game, he has stuck it up all those who didn't believe he could make it.

Well done Belly, an absolutely brilliant defensive job today.

You are as brave, as honest, as hard and as exciting as they come.

:wub::wub::wub:

what impressed me about bell and carrol also, was finally our defence found the ability to close quickly on the leading forward and get a punch in...

it's so inspirational when a guy punches it away like carrol and bell did all day today...

add in whelan instead of Ward (how many turnovers...hmm) and rivers back into the defence perhaps to replace Brown, and that is a promising defence for the future. i like wheatley, i think he is much better option than brown or ward because his kicking skills are so great and damaging

agree with everything written by you

Fantastic game by belly. He has been one of the few shining lights this year.

He along with green and bruce were the best 3 players on the ground ... funny that, they are the 3 most derided players on this board ...

Belly was great today. I have always been a huge fan of his and great to see everyone else starting to beleive in him aswell.

Its clear channel seven dont know him though as on the channel 7 news "maloney stopped a certain goal to welsh":wacko:

one day he will get the reconition he deserves

Yep, he gave 110% all day (seeing as though you can only physically give 100% and he had 10 x 1%ers I guess that is technically true), and I reckon he was BOG simply because of his tackling and spoiling.

Daniel Bell was not good today

He was phenomenal

BLOODY HELL- DANIEL BELL

Todays game should be the making of Belly

One of the best defensive, spoiling , rebounding games you would ever want to see.

Who will he take next week against The Filth?

welll done belly.... really have developed exceptionally well this season.. im sure JADED will be happy for him too....

and jaded i think now he has really started to develop into a vey good player.

great too see how fast he has matured as a player... dont think he will be dropped again for a long time

Great stuff from, BOG and he will only get better and better and with the inclusions of Frawley, things are turning out pretty well.

Though i reckon the biz is pretty influential to helping bell develop his game, the biz is a very creative player and i am sure bell will learn a lot from him.

Where are all you 'Belly will never make it' posters now?????

Stand up and take your [censored] medicine!!

I love the boy! Well and truly love him... (no homo-erotic slurs, please! )

Steady on Brocky..after such a great game I can see how its tempting to shoot off like that ( no offence meant). But 'The coming of Bell' has tested the patience/faith (or whatever you will) of even the most hardened of our supporters. Ease up.

I hope and reckon he can keep getting better...I have seen him building up to this moment all year. For me its one of the few positives that has come out of the season so far.

i'll eat some humble pie after bell's performance today, and i'll enjoy every bite. i said he had a long way to go after a poor performance against west coast, and hopfully he is much closer than i thought he was. todays performance was excellent and i look forward to him playing games like today more consistantly.

Alan, you have been here for 5 minutes, don't tell me what to do. The amount of crap Bell has got around here has been horrendus, those posters need to stand up and say they were wrong.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
