In her (very ordinary) interview the subject was homesickness, referring mostly to the Kozzie situation but also to others (eg Petty) she said 'they' always get homesick which I interpreted as referring to interstate players (makes sense) but others have seized on this as a racist thing. ie. 'they' being indigenous players.

FWIW, I think she performed very poorly, but most of it has been misinterpreted which is in part down to Roffey but the remainder is circling journos itching for a kill.

Yeah and Sam McClure is taking her saying "I haven't spoken to Trac about that" (meaning she hasn't spoken to him about leaving the club - she most likely has not had that conversation with him, he would address the FD) as that she hasn't spoken to him at all.

Jimmy was fantastic at getting people to donate but he oversaw some of the worst administrative and hiring decision the club AND league have ever seen. If it weren't for GC and GWS entering the league we quite possibly might have gone winless across two seasons, in his 3rd and 4th seasons as President.

And don't forget Garry Lyon's role at that time. It was laughable to hear Dees fans phoning Whateley after Roffey's interview calling for Garry to get involved - the same bloke who was key to appointing Neeld.

It's tough to judge Jim because he fell ill not long after taking the presidency, but the fact is his administration, aided by a well-intentioned G Lyon, left the club in ruins.

So the puerile tabloid that is the Herald Sun has a headline 'Disintegration Demons'. And we just blindly believe this dross? Next you'll be telling me that the Daily Star in the UK is a reputable read. Give it a spell. The media is salivating with all this nonsense and so many are falling for it. I'll listen to our 7 time AA Maxy we'll before these losers. He summed up the situation perfectly.

If headlines and wild claims are "dross", it is the job of the president, the board and the CEO to demonstrate this by providing an effective counter-narrative.

So far they have been unable or unwilling to do so.

Of course the sensationalist media are not interested in balanced reporting. But given that we plunged 10 places on the ladder this season and have been in constant turmoil over issues affecting two of our biggest stars, Clayton Oliver and now Petracca, they may just have a point.

Everyone wanted the President to talk, now she has and everyone thinks it's pathetic.

It's sort of like when someone says that there's too many streaming services around and how good would it be if there was a centralised service that had all these shows.

We had it. It was called Foxtel, everyone hated it..

Well that's a bit frivolous.

Of course people wanted her to talk and explain, but not pathetically, which she was.

I agree. On top on the the despicable attempt by Tom Morris to insinuate Kate Roffey had said something racist by presenting her words out of context, somehow Mark Robinson gets away with writing this; “Unbelievably, Roffey said she wasn’t aware of Petracca’s grievances and even alluded to a belief that it was all media-driven.”

There has to be some accountability.

No they don't.  Show me where they have printed facts like Brayshaw gone and not replaced, Smith gone and not replaced, Petracca misses half a season,  Oliver no pre season and playing injured, Five AA and others missing from our last game, one of the toughest fixtures in the league, lose four games by under a kick etc, etc, etc. Injuries and fixturing are not 'sexy' enough for the sensationalist driven media. The old 'don't let the facts get in the way of a good story ' is alive and kicking. Didn't the same media tell us Viney was leaving a week ago? Didn't the same media tell us Oliver was 100% gone? Does your memory go back to 2019? The media had us written off as a basket case of a club. Never mind we had a squillon Injuries and 12 blokes doing pre season. Fought back in 2020 to miss the finals by % with the worst fixture in the history of the game. The club that was in crisis with an appalling culture then went onto win the flag in 2021. No, the media has no point currently, if ever.

With all this great press and attention with many chapters to go. Maybe the Petracca’s genius plan is to build the MFC into a “Big club!” So he can be sufficiently adored.

win win

To be fair, if she’s going to be a club President, being proficient in front of the media goes along with the role. It’s not really anybody else’s fault if she did poorly?

And yes I understand some people will have a go at her no matter what she says, but there’s also the possibility that she also did a bad job.

It's not frivolous Redleg, it's factual.

People were screaming the house down here demanding our president talk and what's that gotten them?

You can whinge till the cows come home but if they don't come home don't complain to me.

You have completely missed my point.

There is nothing wrong with expecting a President to speak on a very important/crisis issue.

What is wrong, is the President speaking like an unprepared smartie and basically making a fool of herself.

Yeah maybe. I think the first rule of journalism also applies to media facing representatives of any organisation:

’Don’t become the story’

Rightly or wrongly, that’s what’s happened here and even 5 out of 10 doesn’t cut it when the knives are out from a media perspective IMO

Is it just me but I haven’t picked up on the media being overly critical about how the ‘umpire assisted premiers of 2023’ couldn’t even make the finals the year after they ‘won’ the premiership…surprise, surprise.

Don’t want to upset a huge segment of their market audience do we.

Funny that.  Or how one of their players 'actually' wants out. Fractured relationships an poor culture? Dubious leaders of the club? Two sets of rules our beloved media.

Sadly, not much. For that reason nowadays I rarely read the papers and watch any ‘football programs’.  (As an aside I totally ignore the commercial tv stations for any news whatsoever, what they churn out and how they churn it out is beyond belief at times)

Back to the footy……don’t get me started on some of our commentators that call the footy games. Wow wee! (and there are some that irk me more than him!)

Perhaps even more sad, this forum is my go to for info on the MFC!! (there is some very informative information to be gleaned , I learn a lot!).

Thank goodness despite all the rule changes, interpretations of rules, quality of umpiring etc, etc in my opinion it is still the best game in the world to watch.  That is why I go to the footy and watch the games ….and GO DEES!

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
