2025 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Featured Replies

AFL is in the worst state it's ever been. The draft is so compromised it may as well not exist anymore. It's absolute dogsh*t seeing so much of the top end of the draft linked to academies every year. It feels like in 2-3 years time, Gold Coasts entire team will be top 10 picks and they'll beat every team by 10 goals every week.

How are clubs stuck at the bottom without the academy or big club status meant to compete? Their good players are either demanding trades to top clubs despite being contracted or leaving as free agents to the top clubs too. We're stuck at a point where if you aren't Geelong or a big club like Collingwood, you either live off academy talent or you struggle in the bottom half of the ladder for eternity.

Yeah it's a [censored] show. Northern clubs have endless rolls of the dice and enough currency to always be able to fill their needs. How many key forwards have they had exclusive access to or grabbed immediately before us and we've had to settle for the scraps.

Worst thing is when clubs like us rightfully complain about it these northern clubs (and supporters) kick off about it like its their God given right to have exclusive access to multiple top 10 pics every damn year.

Watch them balance the ledger by eliminating father/son.

I am very closely aligned with Cal’s ranking. Although one clear exception for me is he ranked Beau Addinsall (Suns academy) at 26!!! He’d walk into our best 22 as a mid in early stages of 2026. Smart. Skilled. Pacy. I still think he’s ranked 9 or 10 in this draft group. Clubs need to force these academy picks to be heavily paid up and bid in them early !!

Also strange that the Swans other two academy guns Carmichael and Chamberlain aren’t included. Swans will clean up big time in this draft.

There are plenty of quality young players outside Cal’s top 30… so they might be on JTs list if we keep our early second round pick…

SA : Matthew LeRay, Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier, Jett Dahlitz

VIC country: Riley Onley. Murray.

VIC metro: Rory Wright. Sandringham.

WA: Fred Rodriguez

Any of these 6 would be handy additions to the red and blue.

Who can tell me about Landy from the Eastern Rangers...

given how well SA went at the carnival im surprised at the lack of noise around a few of theirs LeRay being the main one

I'm still on the Farrow bandwagon. Wouldn't be upset with him at a mid first round pick if we get our hands on one.

I reckon he’ll slip to mid second round

Poor back half of the year. I'll admit I haven't watched the juniors as much this year but thought he was a cut above most during the champs.

I really like him but think may have been sore in the back end, played some senior footy but still showed some real class with ball in hand

From everything that’s being said it looks like he’ll be a top 10 pick contender

Ummm. Mid second round is actually around pick 37-39. I think that’s very very unlikely. I’d pick him in round 1 between 12-15. He’s got AFL quality - elite kick, great mark, smart footy IQ.

Yes I keep forgetting the academy picks I suspect 25-30 for him

He’s a BUY at that rate. A steal in fact.

Freo will grab him in 0.5 second if he’s available imv in the first round.

Absolutely. If we got him down that low then happy days. Could be a Hayden Young type I reckon

They've released their top ten now with a phantom draft scheduled for midweek:

#7: Cooper Duff-Tytler

Position: Ruck / Key Forward
Height: 200cm
Club: Vic Metro / Calder Cannons
Draft Range: 1-10

They are joking !?!?! He’s a 200cm player who can kick goals and play as a 2nd midfielder as well. Think Luke Jackson type but with more footy IQ and development. He can start as a 2nd ruck and then become number 1 after 2-3 pre seasons. If the Dees had a pick in the first 3, I’d choose him

#7 does feel low for someone who's been touted as top 2 all year. But talls - specifically rucks - don't often go super high anymore. And I don't see Jackson's explosive power in CDT, so maybe he does slip a little? Then again, Twomey has him going to West Coast at #1 or #2 so ...

Really want that pick 6 from the suns to get Robey. If we can turn Trac into Robey and Flanders then happy days!

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
