We likely canโ€™t have both but if Kalani Whote chooses us and our NGA prospects prove fruitful we could be back in a big way the next 4-6 years

Who are these NGA prospects you are talking about?

Taurine Ah-Mu and Ricky Mentha

Would be catastrophic, especially Melksham. Reeks of getting rid of Junior McDonald. You have to have senior/experienced players around the club or there's no point bringing in kids.

We are rebuilding, I think we can only afford one of them to stay. The kids have to come through. If it's Melksham so be it. McDonald's last 2 weeks show me that he's done and Hore's played prodomanitely in the 2's.

Taurine Ah-Mu and Ricky Mentha

Do you have any info of Ah-Mu never heard of him?

Because the blokes body is made of paper and struggles to play a full season out.

He's no use to the team if half of it is spent in rehab with all these soft tissue injuries.

He's going to be 30 next year, you're not going to get much more from him with his ongoing soft tissue injuries

If this is correct, why the [censored] would any other club take him?

If your answer is "leadership", think about how players like Rory Atkins to GC or Hugh Greenwood to North have gone.ย

And if you think we'd only get a 3rd round pick for him, that only confirms how silly this proposal is.

It'll never happen in a million years but if you're looking to trade someone with currency it's Lever to Norf

Disco to take up the 3rd tall role in defence

Reckon you could fit him into one of your 22s for us mate?

ย

Everyone is on the table apart from Max, Tracc, Kozzie, Riv, Juddy, Caleb and Tolstrup.

Support him. See if you can get 10-15 games out of him again (he's played 14 this year) and show Melbourne people (he's a premiership player afterall) that they are valued and not things to be given up on and thrown out when it all gets a little hard.

He's not just a premiership player, teams were playing a defensive forward on him in our premiership year.

He probably wont get back to that form but he is worth more to our club and culture than any draft pick we would get for him.

Play him in the backline where he wins one on ones and sets up play.

If his body doesn't hold up next year he should retire a Melbourne champion not sold for a packet of chips.

Lever, Sparrow and Bowey all premiership players would be where i'd be looking for the right trade.

All have strengths and apeal for other clubs but none are taking us forward.

You do realise that by facilitating moves for fringe players, which is what JJ was and doing the right thing by the player puts us in good stead with the powerful player managers.

This work doesn't occur in a vacuum.ย And player managers always speak highly of our club because we treat players with respect.

He was also out of contract.

JJ like all players who come out of contract get to dictate where they go, not the club.

JJ went to Sydney purely because he thought that was the best fit for him moving forward. I personally have zero issues with that.

JJ's family are also family friends of the Longmire crew here in Corowa, so that was another factor as well.

Because some clubs actually like to back their medical team and think they can turn the injury prone player around in a whole new environment.

Happens all the time, we did it with Harley Bennell and Brisbane did it with Joe Daniher and Lincoln McCarthy.

Heaps more examples of this everywhere.ย

If you think Salem is worth more then a 3rd round based off evidence of the past 3 years then you're in for a reality check.

No club is coughing up more then a 3rd rounder for a guy who's going to be 30 next year with a crook body. C'mon, that's not how the landscape works.

This isn't ridiculous. If it gave us a top 10 pick but they're unlikely to part with pick 2 for Lever. Although I'd prefer Turner up forward. It's moot, it'll never happen.

Yeah but you said his body is made of paper, heโ€™s 30 and he has ongoing soft tissue. Despite that, you think another club (but not us) can and will turn that around?

Hugely different situation to the players you mentioned. None of them were leaders of their respective clubs, Bennell didnโ€™t even have a club, whilst Daniher wanted out of Essendon and McCarthy couldnโ€™t get a game when fit.ย

I agree that on recent form Salemโ€™s not attracting a high pick. Thatโ€™s my point and what makes this silly. Given who he is at this club (ie a leader, at a time when we need to be playing a lot of kids), getting a third rounder for him means IMO weโ€™re much better off doing what you seem to think other clubs can do and get his body right so that he can continue to be a leader of this club.

We don't need a ground up knock down rebuild, we have the players with a couple of others to come in perhaps, we just need to give our players the proper overhaul service and get them into surgery now and let them have enough time and a decent pre-season to get back to their best and we'll smash it next year like we know how to do.ย ย

We have the tools and the pieces...now we just need to get everyone in the shop for a good service and prepare for next year.ย

Also make sure we rotate our depth properly, keep everyone happy, we can do it dammit!

The third round started at pick #45 in 2023. 20 players were drafted from that point. Only 8 of them have played this year, and only 3 have played 10 or more games.

In 2022 the third round started at pick #39. 21 players were drafted from that point. Only 12 of them have played, with only 5 playing 10 or more games. One of them is Corey Wagner.

Insanity to trade Salem for a third rounder. If we get back to our best next year, I'd prefer the chance of having a fit Salem than a kid taken who probably won't even play.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
