Theirs were 2 years apart. 3 of 4 at their home ground. And the year in between they lost a prelim at home. How much different are they, really?

Not really, I for one would have felt much better losing two PF in a row for example.

It is just so deflating to keep losing finals games at home, over and over.

There is a huge difference between Losing Finals in Straight Sets and losing Preliminary Finals

And that is: One must WIN Finals to make The Preliminary Final

and we Failed to do that, Twice….

We won't be near finals for a very long time

Dropping out of two sets of finals without firing one due to poor kicking and aging fwds was bad enough.

Then eleven wins last year with still no improvement in the previous issues.

And this year will see even less wins with the same problems.

Definitely time for Goody to go and quite a few others including players.

We are tending down each year and on our way to a wooden spoon.

Bad enough to blow two years of double chances but what we have been serving up this year has been both sublime and atrocious.

Sadly mostly atrocious with our tallest forward averaging a hearty seven goals out of ten games with maybe a total of 17 for the year. Wth?

It’s not a very impressive CV is it. Hard Evidence shows we cannot go into next Season without Serious Renovations inside the Club

Old story, nobody remembers who came second you may as well finish LAST, And we didn't even finish second in those years, just one failure after another, after another! TOO many here are too easily satisfied, so too are the club and as a whole this is why we sit where we do!

@seventyfour is right. Winning flags is hard. It’s frankly insane how many people on here roll out the whole “we should have won multiple flags” line. At the end of this year, at least three of the following will be true:

1. Collingwood will have won 1 flag from 4 seasons under McRae, despite having a stack of talent and a dream fixture

2. Brisbane will have won 1 flag from 7 seasons of finals, despite their incredibly talented list

3. Geelong will have won 1 flag in the last 14 years under Chris Scott, despite being in the Danger/Cameron/Stewart era

4. the Dogs will have won 0 flags in 9 years despite having a list and midfield depth to die for

Pies, Lions and Cats have all played off in Prelims outside of their flag years. Prelims are different to semi finals, you need to get to the final 4 to give yourself a crack at the flag. If you haven't made the Prelims you were never a chance at a flag.

Some teams make prelims and get belted (like us in 2018) and were never a shot at the flag, but for the most part teams that make the final 4 have put themselves amongst the teams with a chance at winning it all. If you're in your flag window and haven't even made the Prelims (ie gone out in straight sets) it's a failure of a year.

We were “a chance for a flag” in 22-23 but these days those seasons get cast away as failures by those who succumb to the “we should have won multiple flags” rhetoric.

And at any rate, for all the reinventing and competing they’ve done, my previous post remains true. If Geelong doesn’t win it this year, that’ll be 1 flag in 14 seasons of them being “competitive” under Scott. I’m not criticising them, I’m merely making the point that flags are hard to win.

Geelong also finished runners up once and made Prelims 7 other times under Scott.

22 & 23 were failures. We choked in the finals both years, didn't win one final from four attempts, all at our home ground.

I'd rate Goodys tenure as

One great season - 2021

One good season - 2018

Three underperformed seasons - 2017, 2022-23

Four bad seasons - 2019-20, 2024-25

Two seasons out of nine where we went above par is not a good strike rate (especially considering he wasn't coming in at the start of the rebuild like most coaches do).

Forever thankful for the flag but besides the 2021 season I don't think he's got the most out of this list.
