But we're missing Trac as well. He only played in that Carlton loss. Had he played against Brisbane and GWS, who knows.

I agree defence wins premierships, but defence is based on system and personnel to an extent.

So the system could cover for a defender in that system, but the team cannot cover the loss of contest from midfield.

The midfield was deplorable for most of last night, and has been horrible for a while now.

If we'd had an ability to throw Trac in there the last few weeks, we'd have been able to stem the flow.

It's no different to when Trac was playing against the Eagles and Freo and yet we still got smashed in the midfield.

Doubt he would have made much of a difference last night.

He wasn't getting the ball. He was averaging 10 touches and 1 tackle a game last season. I simply refuse to believe that losing him has led to "all lines being decimated".

I didn't say decimated, stats are stats, it is how you use them, we miss his footy nous up forward, you can disagree if you want.

Wow,

Sack Goodwin, the players are [censored], etc etc.

Gawn and Goodwin will not blame personnel, but we had May injured or coming back from injury, Brayshaw retired, Petracca injured, and even thought he is massively underrated on here, Spargo, throw in Salem's Season, Gawn's leg.

So basically all lines thrown into disarray, with replacement players not quite ready to step up.

I was as disappointed as anybody last night watching it live, but the confidence is shot as well, we had young players trying their best against battle hardened players.

We get another go next year, threatening not to renew your membership says more about that poster than the team.

Try going into the Club a few years ago the day after losing to Essendon by 146 points and ringing members asking them if they want to renew, that gives you resilience.

It is footy, nobody dies, I will continue to support my team.

Im not one calling for Goody' s dismissal.

Frankly he has enough credit in the bank to keep going.

Alas your citing outs and injuries doesn't do it for me.

Max played a ripper of a game injured or not. Not an issue.

Last time we played the dogs...this season..we beat them quite convincingly.

Spargo wasn't playing and Salo wasn't really tearing it part in that game.

Gus didn't play either

Tracca is the only significant one missing. And to be fair to you, Tracca played a blinder.

I'm talking round two this year.

Last night we were completely smashed.

Let's be honest that score doesn't tell the full story.

Dogs missed so many easy ones it could have been a 100 points loss.

From what I can gauge there were only five different players between round 2 and last in nights wreck.

How can we account for this?

Lack of passion.

Effort.

Pride.

Commitment.

Those half arsed tackles sum it up.

Also Viney, Kozzie, anb, and quite a few other supposed top tier players didn't turn up for consecutive weeks.

All when an apparent finals birth was up for grabs.

The dogs on the the other hand were the opposite.

Hungry.

Fast.

Tough.

Invested.

I'm sorry but we were a rabble.

Not the way you want to end what started out to be a good season.

We have been like chandler this year.

Starts out great then disappears.

We came back from Gather round with four wins from five.

I think we celebrated too early.

Since then we have won only six from fifteen.

We are a shell of the team we were since then.

A team that has played Petty fwd for 18 games when he's only kicked 6 goals.

A team whose midfield imploded this year.

And finally for some reason our touted backline has followed suite.

Not excited about 2025 when this is how we exit 24.

Yeah well .... The only teammate who tried to respond was Viney.
Trac and May practically gave Maynard a cuddle after the return loss.

And don't get me started about the non-response when they mugged Langdon.

These are all valid points that should be questioned.

I understand why our guys might be feeling the way they do but that doesn't mean that this way can take us forward. We need to be rising against the crud that comes our way.

Last night was the perfect example of the mental game in full effect. One team in rip-roaring form and full of confidence moving the ball how they please. The other down on their luck, like the pathetic blackjack player at the table crying into his beer and wondering how to support their family.

He averages around 3-4 kicks a game. 2 of them are probably inside 50's max.

We're no where near missing him as you think we are.

If we can get a talented small forward to team up with kozzie through the draft/trade period to team then we'll be fine in that department.

Maybe Mentha could be that player potentially.

We did. He stayed at Carlton regardless on a million a year anyway. We've tried unsuccessfully luring several key forwards the past two off seasons.

Give me an elite midfielder instead please!

What's with the MFC and KPF? We can't get one or have issues when we have one (Hogan). JVR please be the one 🤞🏻

One thing that really irked me last night was at one point JVR was on the ground looking for assistance to get up for a ruck contest two Melbourne players near him and both didn’t help him. Just a little thing but it’s a basic and easy team thing to do but we didn’t. We have lots to work on to turn this team around.

I have seen nothing but good character in our young brigade.

I am not only going on my own observations but what other players have told me in the past, also his footy nous off the ball, but hey, if you are only watching the game for mistakes, posters may miss that.  He had a bit of a down year last year, but was fit and firing this year before the injury, he was a very important cog in 21.

Yeah let's bring another young player in and put the weight of expectation on him, that works, as we have seen in the past.

When looking at a club it best to look beyond individual win and losses. This year has been a write off for many reason well outlined in this site. It is critical the club use the rest of season with a laser focus on next year. Rest injured players that includes Max. To brave for his own good. The club can rebound next year it has the playing group. Season like this happen particularly when you have been up for years. Look at Tigers. The difference between them and us is they made there time at the top count. Our tragedy is we lost multiple home finals that make our situation this year seem petty in comparison. How MFC to win one premiership that we couldn’t see live. Instead four MCG finals for zippo. If Goodwin is to be assessed it on those losses not what was always was one tough season. Whilst a flag was great nothing compares with our home final wins against Cats & Hawks. Being there with fellow Dees is a highlight to me beyond all others. Just a shame it was book ended by 22/23

Just pathetic, I know we jump on Goodwin but tonight showed he’s lost the players, playing with no heart, the selection is unfair, continues to play out of form players. He’s finished at our club, he has lost the players, reckon we should go get a young gun coach or bring in Nathan Buckley.

Haha. Buckley. You’re kidding. Could it be that we are playing a lot of young and injured players and they just don’t have what it takes right now. It doesn’t need to be some Over the top declaration. It’s never as good or as bad as it seems. Bulldogs were no good last year. We beat Sydney twice last year. We almost beat Brisbane a few weeks ago. [censored] Buckley. You are a genius.

The dogs used the ball well & they have a good forward line set up with naughton, jamarra, weight management & Darcy.

There midfield use the ball well & run & lobb down back  has been a game changer. Credit to bevo for turning them around.

As I said hopefully bont got 3 votes closer to the brownlow.  Apart from pies fans & maybe blues fans, surely everyone is backing the bont

All you over the top negative Nancies remember how Goodwin was first in line to get sacked after 2020. Things change fast. Things like list management can go from looking terrible to genius within a season. Think about how little midfield we had most of the year. Ponder and meditate on the idea and then think about how on earth we realistically could have done anymore than we did this year. Then think about why you expect more out of what is essentially no midfield at all. Now is that the coaches fault or the list managers fault? Is it just luck and a really tough game that they play? [censored] happens boys and girls. Let’s get fresh and go again with a better draw next year and some nice sunday arvo games.

Anyone notice McVee seemed to be on the ball in the fourth quarter? Wonder if there is a trial run coming for the end of the season, and audition for 2025...

All fair points, but I think with the poor midfield performance (which is putting it lightly), our defenders are constantly under fire.

What I would say about the defence is that despite it often being too aggressive and getting done at the back (see last night multiple times), I think it bodes well that we're still trusting the process.

Our defence needs the midfield to defend with it, and the high half forwards to provide team defence.

It's no coincidence that TMac has been exposed the last two weeks like he used to be as a defender, where earlier in the year he was rock solid. Our midfield has been destroyed two weeks in a row at stoppage. This is where we are losing games.

I feel sorry for Tmac.

Up until the last two games he has been great in his old...new...role.

The ball was coming in at warp speed and he was on two of the best fwds on the comp.

He held Hogan until our midfield imploded against the Giants.

I think he's still moving quite well.

Last night was a shocker but he certainly was not alone

I thought he was one of our best last night despite being exposed. Would have been down a lot more had it not been for his early efforts.

We simply need to get a new forward coach who actually played as a forward. It is an ongoing issue that needs to be fixed asap.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
