As for backups (temporary possibly) Leek Aleer (GWS) Macrae and Caleb Daniel ( WB ) .

Hunter offers nothing and to a degree so those Chandler and Sparrow. Where does Spargo rate, anyone.

Would love Aleer. Is going to be a very good player.

You do realise that those 3 all work together and that Taylor has a say in List Management? Also that recruiting doesn't stop at the draft.

Jason Taylor wouldn't have any say in contract negotiations or courting of players from other clubs. That's not his role.

I reckon they all have a say in it.

Lamb's role isnt the draft, yet he's there on draft night every year as part of our team

But identifying them might be.

Is there something legit about Derkson or would he be just another Pat McKenna who we also got from GWS a number of years ago.

I think Matt Owies could be useful for us, but I guess we have Spargo who potentially could get himself back into the side.

No mate, this kid can play and has WAY more upside -- he lead GWS VFL Gkicking LY and played very well behind ball this year, they just have a plethora of talls ahead of him and he wants to come to VIC for family reasons (3 kids) and obv opportunity.

Would almost be my #1 Dees target right now comp wide, so I dare say we would be and have been keen on him prev.

I cannot see it with Leek tbh, looks like a duck-out-of-water whenever I see him, def improving though!

Braydon Preuss delisted by GWS.

Ironic how he moved for more opportunities yet he played more games for us as a back up ruck during his two year tenure than he did over four years at the Giants.

If a medical shows he is still capable physically, must be looked at surely!

Probably the reason why the Saints have pulled out of the Houston race.

Callaghan is a far more impactful player than Houston, plus has age on his side.

no way

houston is one of the best ball users in the competition

callaghan is a good player, but houston is a two-time all oztrayan for good reason

Yeah, Nibbler basically plays/played as a third winger, with a greater licence to join in on offence.

I don't think we want Spargo in the midfield rotation @dazzledavey36, I'd prefer we go after a Jagga Smith, who has moved into number 1 target spot for us IMO.

Play Charlie between high half forward, wing and deep forward. Charlie getting to the foot of contests like he did in 2018 and 2021 inside 50 made him a dangerous small. Needs to do the same again. I do have concerns about his fitness though given the long lay off. Let's hope he's back on the track soon.

Jagga will be LONG gone I suspect, I am just glad somehow Smilie might be available, after seeing him live -- he is the exact player we need.

did you see the game where gw$ beat the puddy tatts down at sleepy hollow and it felt like he marked EVERY f50 entry?

I'd be more concerned about his proclivity for striking people during games.

Callahan is FAR superior to DH, not even close. Diff roles, age a factor in that also.

Yes, that is what made me see improvement, but outside of that he has looked a lil shaky.. but def has some talent that much is clear, wld just make me nervous ala Chisholm used to same kinda jitters spring to mind

I am still holding some hope that there are 1-2 players were into that aren't public yet, seems its not Riccardi or C Brown like i'd hoped or Hogan which I was trying to manifest haha but def feels like there is someone in the wind late.. Callahan feels like a next year one for Saints and anyone else but if available have a crack, issue is gonna be pick5 ie we are NOT moving it for anything! Hence why SH deal won't come back, as we weren't thinking it'd be #5 when he backed-out so am glad he did, the turncoat he is!

i'm sorry but i just don't see it

houston is a much better ball user by foot, accrues more disposals, impacts the play much more...

personally, i'd like both!

don't see this as a knock on callaghan; more of an indication of how highly houston is as a player in my estimation

Finn is certified line breaker, precise by foot and a lethal finisher with pace.. and YOUNG

he's anything but precise by foot imo

Callaghan is a tease, not buying the hype just yet

Fair enough.. but if he was a Demon it'd be a game-changer for me & i'd be hyped-up like a 90's rap MC 🤩

2024 Disposals: 22.9 / 346m gained

2024 Player rating: 11.65 (for perspective, that is similar to say Daniels at GWS, and is better than Langdon has ever had best of 10.1 same exact best rating as Salem coincidentally in his entire career, Finn has played 50 games) So I think saying he is a tease might be a little harsh for a 3rd year player. But get where you are coming from!

For further ref only, Trac goes i50 more than anyone just about and therefore his kicking (which is inconsistent we know) is 55% for career @4.9 i50's per game.. His kicks go 17m on avg, Finn's 16m.

47 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

74% disp eff and 66% kicking eff career, lowest being this year but his inside 50's this year was way up to 4 a game from 3 per game so that works hand in hand really. For a line breaker that's running at speed, that is v solid. He takes the kicks most never even attempt which hurts him but that is GWS coaches encouraging him to do so most likely. Comp to Nibbler for instance who went at 53% Kick Eff this year at similar i50 per game (less though 3.4 vs Finn 3.8) Salem for instance goes 72% Career but has only 2 i50 per game and LY went at 68% kicking eff.. Gus is his closest demon career wise and Gus wasn't sprinting 80% of time he kicked..

20 Coaches votes this year for me means he has gone form prospect to pro -- but we all have our opinions that is what makes the world go round haha

Perhaps our best trade-in will be if we can somehow get another top-15 pick, feels like a list-changing draft ala Kos/Jackson so if we can get that pick 14 were chasing or anything else, which is something we've always done well, that will bear potential fruit down the line greater than anything else.

FWIW I think getting  Membrey, Derkson, Daniel, Owies combo would be solid enough w/youth added to make a massive overall change to the list depth without obv seeing topline like Lever/May which can't be expected most years.. Preuss/Soldo/Crossley as ruck depth would also be something I'd love to see, kid from SA who's a Ruck is also in our current 2nd pick draft range as well.

So long as strapping's outside the salary cap...

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
