LDU is a $900k player and our cap is already stretched due to the Oliver, Petracca and Pickett contracts. I see us as being more likely to shed players this year than to add them.

My guess of cap space in 2025: Brayshaw $750k, BBB $450k, Tmac $450k, Milkshake $350k, Petty 😳 $550k (will get $900k at Crom)

I don't think these figures are unreasonable, given the average player contract last year was $450k.

In 2 years add Max and Maysie to that list.

If we aren't going hard for a bunch of guys such as LDU, Battle, Moyle and Logan McDonald, then IMO we are in significant trouble. Our current list cannot take us to a flag.

Why is it that Essendon, Richmond, Saints and Pies can attract quality players but our club has lost its shine?

I really hope players considering us do not talk to Brody Grundy before choosing a new club.

But these numbers have already been factored into our planning.

(I think Petty is probably on less than stated and Melksham is now a rookie wage. We also still need confirmation on Brayshaw.)

My worry is that Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw, Salem and maybe Pickett have been on backended deals.

He’s upping his value the last few weeks

I hope we didn't plan to have no salary cap space for the next 5 years.

We planned to try and maximise our chances to win the flags in 2022-24, which made sense given we had Max and May entering their twilight.

But can we find any takers?

Kmart? I was think more Daimaru.

But in all seriousness, he was pretty damn good. If Norf start to turn things around and win a few more this year, hard to see him leaving. Especially to a club that is on the decline.

it was more a comment as how de goey is 'k mart dusty'

i would love ldu in our side, but i can't see north letting him walk at the end of the season for anything 'reasonable', but instead trying to convince him to stay as they continue to get better

he's a helluva player

It would cost us our round 1 pick. If Tommo was in contract (assume he’s not?) you’d throw him in for good measure as the Roos need some height back there.

and the rest

i think offers would start at two first round picks, and north would want the 2024 one to be in the top 10

tomlinson is an unrestricted free agent, and has my blessings to give someone else grey hairs

2 first rounders is way over. He hasn’t done anything to warrant that type of currency. That is Top 20-30 player territory. The money he may command may be overs but trade value is 1st rounder which will be a top 10 this year. Maybe a f2 if things get testy.

But we need FA and draft picks. Trying to salvage this list is not the way to go IMV.

yeah, but he's under contract

north won't get him leave at the end of this year unless they get overs

he's a restricted free agent at the end of 2025 fwiw - so even then the kangas can match

They do have the upper hand for sure. But trade value is trade value - you never really pay overs for someone. It’s more the contract.

Anyway, history tells us that it’s not likely happen this year anyway.

yeah agreed

they hold onto him, fight like billy-o to keep him to help with the development of sheezel, wardlaw, mckercher, phillips, smillie (presuming they draft him with pick 1) etc., and then if worst comes to worst they either accept a band 1 compo or they match and force a trade

that kangas midfield is gonna be stacked for the next decade

Yep. Gonna be in a battle with GCS, WCE and Hawks for flags in 3-4 years time.

The reality is we are probably at the least appealing the club has been to a player like LDU for at least a decade. 2025 is about fixing that.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
