For just a moment I was thinking (read, hoping) Ian Hunter and Once Bitten Twice Shy, but a terrific song choice regardless.

The ball drop pics are especially fantastic and really give a good indication of kicking action/result during set shots. You can see JVR, Chandler and Kolts ball is perfectly straight with the leg, body and eyes lined up with the ball before impact. Kozzy's is still looking inconsistent where he needs to adjust mid kick potentially... But I'm no expert just thoughts.

Other observations which have probably been made by track watchers:

- Taj looks to have put on some serious muscle

- Windsor looks a pure athlete with long powerful strides and a beautiful kicking action

- I'm sure all players are wearing sports watches to track their running/heart rate etc. But during match sims it seems a little dangerous no? I've seen some horrible facial fractures from watches worn in physical sports. I sometimes wear mine but with a sweatband over it so as not to cause other injury playing footy and basketball. Just another thought.

David Bowie wrote ‘All the Young Dudes’ for Mott the Hoople. lan Hunter with the signature very dark shades was a singer with the band. Mick Ronson also was alumni, associated famously with Bowie’s ‘Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’. Lou Reed’s ‘Transformer’ album etc.

Given the recent spate of gloom descending on DL, definitely got a buzz out of the boys “Taking Care of Business” on the track during Sixes slide show.

The half empty and half way to Hades fraternity could defer to the BTO acronym as Backman Turning (it)Over.

A slightly interesting (well, to me at least) factoid… the band I moved from Melbourne to Sydney to join, had a guitarist named Steve Ralphs, who, as it turned out, was first cousin to Mick Ralphs, guitarist with Mott the Hoople and then with Bad Company.

And now for a somewhat interesting sub-factoid… it turned out that prior to me being offered the spot in the band, he was a visa over-stayer and had been going under the name of Steve Fleming (which happened to be my family name), so he decided to revert back to his real name. The band didn’t last long after that, as the immigration people caught up with him pretty quickly and he was gone by the end of the year (1979).

And yes, the Bowie connection with Mott the Hoople was such a good story. I do think though, that Ian Hunter was probably destined to become a star regardless of whether Bowie had intervened or not… he was such a strong personality with the talent to back it up. One Bitten Twice Shy, like T-Rex’s Bang a Gong (Get It On) is one of the great songs of that era and I reckon would still be a hit if it was released today.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
