But seeing as i'll get ESPN through Disney next year i'll prob look at stopping Kayo when the F1 finishes..

Stan's model of sports as an add on is terrible.

Optus was the old Telstra (get the mobile subs) model.

The streaming world is very volatile to say the least.

 

The increases in kayo subscription costs are ridiculous considering the Dodgy quality of the product.

As someone said, the AFL club prices of last year have been corrected and are now all $350.

From what I can see, it might be better to join a NRL or NBL team. Looks like I should be able to get one for $240 – $195.

Still looking. Hopefully find something cheaper.

I was lucky that I received an offer for $10 per month for 12 months, so I took that up immediately. But I must say when I saw the price increased that were coming in I thought it was insane, especially given how poor Kayo as a product is overall and I would argue that the majority of content is not even offered in 4k. 

I looked at the figures and it's actually approaching a point where it's cheaper to obtain a Foxtel subscription, depending on the amount of subscriptions you're running.

This decision stems from DAZN's concerns over increasing piracy and the LFP's insufficient support in combating this issue. Consequently, DAZN has paid only half of the €70 million owed for February, withholding the remaining €35 million

It's a good things they're getting some Saudi money soon because 

DAZN is yet to comment but its decision to bring this matter to a head earlier than expected comes only two weeks after it reported a £1.2billion loss for 2023, a result that meant Anglo-Russian businessman Len Blavatnik, its majority shareholder, had to pump in another £665m into the company, taking his overall investment in DAZN to £5.3bn since its launch in 2007.

Streaming companies were like Uber etc in that it was all about market share.

Now they need to make money.

Two minutes with a calculator (with lots of zeroes) tells you no streamer can make money in Australia after paying the present rights values to the AFL and NRL. (IIRC there's 13 million households in Oz)

Therefore it's ads, geo restrictions on passwords a la Netflix and Disney, increased monthly charges, other streaming companies getting key games and thus reducing the residual fee etc.

In all of them the bunny is the sports follower

they tried the same thing in italy, too, where they hold the serie a and serie b rights

of course, this only came after the italian govt tried to see daz n for the appalling quality of their streaming coverage

$5 increase is no big deal. Cant even buy a hot meat pie for that money. I just activate KAYO for the footy season only. No interest or time to care about any other sport.

slightly outdated - kayo basic is now $40pm so $480 a year; $350 says it's a $180 discount which is pretty decent; kayo one at $25m is $300, so getting the 4k version for an extra $50 a year is a decent buy

but my gosh kayo is getting expensive; i had it when it was $5 a month thru telstra for at least the first 18-24 months, then it went up to $15 for year 3, then $35, then i cancelled it

daz n taking over would, you'd imagine, see the price approaching $50 in the not too distant future, which may be a bridge too far for many, particularly if they lose the espn content

We're all mugs and suffering from decades of the privatisation agenda.

I'm paying somewhere around $600 for redlegs, which is okay because it's supporting the club.  Then add on two playing memberships for junior afl and auskick, again not too bad because they're playing and supporting the game and it's future. 

The real rip off is kayo, with price increases for no added value.  The only other thing I watch is F1 highlights.  So I cancel after the footy season.  We used to be able to get some discounts offered by Telstra, but they seem to have stopped.  If you want to do it legally and rely on a tolerable quality and semi reliable feed then it'll end up being more than $320 for the 8 months so more than a grand a year base commitment to footy.  

The biggest bugbear though is supporting Murdoch as his vile agenda is responsible for Brexit, Trump and all sorts of regressive, divisive nastiness like climate denial.  As soon as there's another way I'll happily leave Kayo forever.

What what I don't think I'm allowed say What What I really think about billionaire oligarchs ruining our world.

And having suffered under their coercion it's safe to say most people with Irish origins don't love monarchies of any variety, British, Saudi or otherwise. 

It will be a happy day for me when this becomes a republic without the butcher's apron in the corner of the flag.  

Sorry (Ducking my head back behind the parapet).  I love just about everything else here, but don't feel that it represents me or probably plenty of others either.

The deal with the Saudis has been flagged for some time. Going forward they will probably increase their stake.

Not sure how Foxtel fits strategically as population and sports wise we are an odd fitting minnow. My guess is that they will slowly play the double squeeze with AFL and NRL ie no increased rights money and higher subscriptions. In turn the AFL will package one off days to other streamers. Might even get the occasional pay per view game (Anzac Day etc).

The unknown is where advertisers fit in. Take out the sport betting companies though and the ad dollar isn't what it used to be. Mind you streaming could possibly offer more targeted advertising.

On another note the Foxtel sale was not really a clean sale. It was a debt assumption agreement. You have to wonder who ultimately holds the debt. If Dazn hasn't guaranteed the debt you wonder how Foxtel will ever repay that debt.

The protected nature of the games probably precludes ppv

I think we can expect a LOT tourism advertising

I don't hold out any hope...but a government worth it's salt would keep and enforce anti syphoning legislation to stop this happening.
