Brisbane d. Adelaide - great result.  Now we require 3 wins in Melbourne.

Edited by old55

Yup home final if we make it unless:

We lose tomorrow, but make the final by beating Brisbane in the prelim, and

Adelaide beat North in the prelim.

What was that story about her having to change her lucky hairstyle?  Something about the tight cornrows (or something like that) being considered dangerous?  Apologies if I've got it all wrong, I don't know a lot about hairstyles! 😟

She was very superstitious about cornrowing her hair on GameDay. Last season she did it for every game. The rules changed this season and now hair can’t be cornrowed all the way to the tips because plaits are considered dangerous in play or, as she told me, “Apparently my hair’s a weapon.” She was not impressed.

Hmmm.  So what is that hairstyle that Anne Hatchard is permitted to play with? 😕

She also cornrows her hair, many players do. But the cornrowing must stop when the braids leave the scalp, like this…

So they cornrow from the hairline back across the scalp then ponytail the rest of the hair which is loose (unbraided). If they do cornrow their hair all the way from scalp to tips, they must secure the loose braids in a bun. Players probably don’t do this because sometimes a bun can become loose. The point is there’s to be no braids flying around during play as there’s the potential for inflicting eye injuries.

Fun fact: Westy is a gun cornrower and does her teammates’ hair on GameDay. 😃

Engine room needs to fire. We’ve been bullied by lions and crows in that department recently. North will have taken note.

We have the firepower to win and I think we will. But last weeks performance was poor. Not as confident as I would otherwise be.

Fair enough, but then how does Sabrina Frederick get away with her loosely tied back dreadlocks?

That’s a great question. Maybe the rule doesn’t include dreadlocks. But then again Frederick doesn’t have dreadlocks, she actually has braids, and they’re very long. Interesting.

In: First AFLW game.

Out: Vocal cords.

Go the Dees!

What a game for your first W live match! A QF at Ikon on a sunny Sunday arvo. You’re gonna love it, Lex. ❤️💙

So glad you mentioned vocal cords as an out. Can’t stress it enough… after every single match the girls tell us they could hear us and how much of a difference it makes. They absolutely feed off it. The LOUDER the BETTER!

Win today and we’re back here at Ikon in a fortnight regardless of who we’re up against.

GO THE MIGHTY [censored] DEES!!!!

PS: If you can’t tell, I’m on my second Red Bull having already put away three coffees. Standard GameDay fare  😁

On the West issue I think it is poor to leave her out. I know she hasn't had a good season but her and Purcell work well together in the packs. I would have left Aimee Mackin out and West instead.

Also keep Hore in the forward line.

are you allowed to just push your opponent over in the ruck contest? should have been a free to Pearce

Sad to say we have become a soft and disorganised footy side.

I don;t like this start. Teams have worked us out. Contest and pressure.

The run and handball works against the less skilful sides but it is shown up by the hard tackling sides that crowd the pack

We are just as soft as the men when the pointy end comes around

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
