The blues comments seem respectful and well reasoned compared to the magpie tools.

Yes, I am a Bagger, was born in Carlton and have supported them since I was wee lad! 😁

I think Friday's game is very much a 50/50 prospect and will be a close one. Some outs for the Dees, some outs for the Blues.

As for the view from Parc des Princes, I think the Baggers are quietly confident. Reality is the Blues have only lost one match in the last 3 months and that was essentially the dead rubber against GWS in Round 24. So I don't think it is a case of misguided hubris. Carlton are a good side and in form.

I think for the Dees to win this they really need Fritsch and Pickett to have a significant scoreboard impact.

May the best team on the night win (with no ARC controversies) and then go all the way, via Brisbane, to beat GWS on the big day 😁

Social outcast !!!!

We'll settle for a simple crucifixion.

Your prediction?

Mine:  Dees by 2-3 goals.

I'm not certain exactly why Luci but ....... I'm extraordinarily, outlandishly confident. The baggers supporters will on their way home at 3/4 time.

The optimists

If we make the GF, you could put out the AFL Team of the 20th century against us and we wouldn’t lose.

We’ve won every close game this year, plus the draw in round 1.

Book your flights to Brisbane.

we beat the Dees without Harry, Silvagni, Cerra, Walsh and McGovern

This time around we have them all back except for Harry and Martin

They are missing JVR and Melksham

I am fairly confident

I think Cripps will have a huge game this week, heavily tag for 3qtrs against a quality opponent in mills and still had a decent match. Melbourne won’t tag him and will go head to head which should suit us heaps. 30 touches 8 clearences 6 plus tackles and 16 contested possessions coming up!!!

Very solid - think we will spank them in the middle this time.

Our Defence gets back so well after turnover - they don’t worry us in transition.

I don’t get this! We are playing like Melbourne for a chance in the pre-lim, both sides have everything to lose. Absolutely agree, but psychologically speaking, there is more pressure on Melbourne. Which in my opinion, can only be an advantage to us.

Prelim hear we come.  ( note the spelling FMD )

The crowd will go absolutely nuts. The noise from Blues supporters will certainly out weigh the Dees

Some views on the Dees

Last time we played Melbourne Charlie wasn't really double teamed that much, he was just played really close by May and probably beaten on the night.

You cannot underestimate the quality defender that May is, very strong very capable. Charlie just needs to try and get separation more often because body on body he's got not much hope.

Melbourne should have beaten Collingwood. We will need the 22 at its best and focused. This will be the biggest challenge this year.

Would love for them to throw Petracca up forward, would be a massive win for us. Would be the easiest possible way for us to nullify his influence- starve the forward line by repeat centre clearance wins.We would absolutely smack them in the middle & be 6-7 goals up in the 1st quarter & would be game over by the time they tried to fix it.

But Cincotta beat Kozi last time we played them did he not? Kozi so dangerous.

Sounds like Gawn is hurt so odds shortening that Grundy will play if that's accurate. Still doesn't mean Goodwin will manage them in the team's best interests.

Lever intercepting and then lacing out the wingers and midfielders will cost us dearly. Charlie will have may under control.

Brayshaw will be their biggest out. He had 31 touches and 9 tackles and 6 clearances (2nd most for them after Oliver).Petracca is the one to try to nullify as best we can - had 24 touches and kick 2.2. Gawn only had 11 touches, but 47 hitouts and didn't bother the goal umpire.

Some boring waffle  about their own players

Crippa is nowhere near fit, his out put shows that. Bloke is a monster & plays thru the pain but we need to be smart & manage it. Playing forward will stretch Melbourne & hopefully reduce further damage. Viney & Petracca are hard AF, even Oliver is tough.

We need to be smart, we need Crippa at 100% (or as close to as possible) for Brisbane.

Cripps doesnt have the forward craft of a player like Dusty/Petracca and we need him at the coalface, if we are sacrificing a mid to send them forward I would go with Docherty.

Midfield matchups will be interesting and a number of options are viable throughout the game Hewett will try and shutdown the most active clearance player at any point in time, but at the start of the game.  Hewett v Viney, Oliver v Cripps, Cerra v Petracca

And finally ……

I blame the climate. Poor snow season has meant Dees supporters are staying home for the school holidays…

Goodwin will milk the absolute s**t out of the tribunal decision. They’ll be looking for any motivation.

??????????

It is an alien chimpanzee who had crossed 3 alternate dimensions to watch the very beginning of what would become the ultimate scandal and greatest attempt to cheat in the history of the AFL!!!!!  It sat knowingly in the background at what would become known throughout the multiverse as the “whatever it takes” game!!!

Heh Uncle,

You seem a good sport so you can hang around....

...But in the unlikely event the Dees lose on Friday night I suggest you stay well away from DL for a while...

Actually, I outed myself earlier this year and even had some other Demonlanders confess assorted connections or sympathies with the Navy Blues after my post [I now call them my Blues Brothers 😁]

BTW, Ron B was Carlton's most famous No. 31. Tom Alvin ('87 Premiership side) coming in as the second most famous Blue to don the No. 31 guernsey I would say.

In the event the Blues get up on Friday (I will be there with the hordes of other Navy Blue Zombies* at the 'G) I won't come here to gloat as that would be disrespectful. I would probably even feel a tinge of sadness mixed with the elation of the Baggers being back in the big time. The Dees are my 'second team', I watch all their matches and even occasionally go to watch them live as I have a membership this season.

* reference to Robbo on AFL 360 last night describing the Carlton fans after defeating Sydney last Friday ... he needn't fear us, Zombies lust after brains for food, he will be safe! 😁

I grew up in the Carlton of old, ten minutes walk from Princes Park in the Demon wilderness years (which ones!), so would often take advantage of the free last quarter to see the Blues play some decent footy – a trick I learned from my old man who'd been doing the same since.... well... there was a lot of wilderness....

Always had a soft spot for 'em, great song, used to drink at Percy's once I came of (under)age, and my sister rues that I could have joined her side of the family in blue if she'd only seen the opportunity and put a bit more pressure on. That's unlikely, but they're way down my list of teams I like to see lose. Except on Friday.

Well played, and do stick around. See, why can’t we just be nice. If oppo fans could be (even partly) like this, we’d all have a better time of it. Bit of good natured ribbing, a few froffies, and a jolly good time of it, what!

Of course, it goes without saying - but is worth saying anyway- that doesn’t apply to 90% of Collingwood fans because they’re amoeba. And that’s doing amoeba a disservice.

Good luck, hope you lose: If you do, I shan’t be gloating, and if you don’t I’ll be wishing you the best.

Remember the refrain we all share: anyone but Collingwood. I live to see McGuire’s beetroot-headed apoplectic face when they lose. God I despise them.

I grew up in the Demons old Melbourne recruiting zone in S.E. Melbourne. MFC players used to come to teach us footy skills at primary school so I always had a fondness and affinity for them. Robbie Flower came to one of our footy clinics, I remember being pretty excited and made sure I traded footy cards to get his one.

My extended family were largely either St Kilda or Richmond supporters (depending upon which suburb they first lived in when they arrived in Melbourne from overseas).

I baulked at supporting either of them for some reason despite the attempted bribery to join their ranks and once I found out that I was born in Carlton (at the Royal Womens Hospital) I declared them as my club. The Blues were flying high in the early 80s and my ethnic compatriot, Val Perovic, who featured in the 1981-82 Blues Premiership sides sealed supporting CFC for me.

Yes, Ron carried the No 31 to Carlton but for me it will always be a an infamous Demons number.

Your a good sport and I look forward to reading your posts, albeit from a slightly different angle.

I'm still so angry with Maynard and now the Afl. I reckon the team would be ropeable.

Love how they said it was a Dead rubber after the loss.  Tipping it wouldn't have been if they had won.

Reckon it would be churlish to not feel pleased for you that the Blues won.  It was one of those nights that things went right for the blues and didn't go right for the dees.  Nonetheless, it is the score on the final siren that counts and the blues were in front.

Enjoy the rest of the finals.  If you come up against Coll...smash 'em!!!

I don’t think they’ll do much next week against Brisbane, and if they are to win they’re going to have step up their scoring. 18 scoring shots isn’t going to pay the bills next week.

I found them to be a step down in class compared to Collingwood, although Walsh was something else.

After last week and now, last night, I think Brisbane actually win it this year.

I want GWS to do it but think Brisbane have the best mix.

Walsh played like a man that really, really wanted to win. Big games demand it and he was brilliant

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
