We will certainly deserve the tag that we are soft fair weather supporters.  I seriously do not want to experience the shame, to face up to the truth of the perception that the rest of the football world has about our softness of our supporter base.

So we’re all soft? Except for you of course.

So we have 70,000 members. Big deal. The sad reality is that we are not as passionate and rusted as we would like to think we are. Yes, as much as I love to hate the Collingwood and Carlton fans (and Essendon and Richmond), I truly am envious of their passion and energy. They have something that we don’t. Yes, I’m jealous.

Not as passionate and rusted-on? Sorry I think you’ll find we’re pretty rusted-on after waiting from birth until 2021 to see a flag.

If you’re so envious of those 4 clubs there’s an easy solution.

We’ve all had a lifetime of snow gags and other [censored] hung on us for supporting Melbourne and you’re on here doing it because you imagined we might not turn up to a game that hasn’t happened yet (and has now sold out). Spell please.

Sadly, I believe you are most likely on the mark. (Can I hope that you are wrong?)

Unfortunately, I was travelling in 2018 when I believe that our crowd and noise was phenomenal in the finals. Wish I was there.

I was however lucky enough to see all our finals in 2021 (SA and WA). In WA the amount of support and NOISE was out of this world. Nothing quite like having 70% of the crowd with you (basically a combination of fanatical West Coast and Freo supporters). Mark my words, the crowd helped our team immensely. (The Geelong game in particular, was pure bliss. You just had to be there)

From a crowd atmosphere perspective the first game the following year back home in Vic (against the Doggies) was flat, almost disappointing. I get it, it wasn’t a final, but it was still flat.

This year it is quite evident that the coach and individual players have almost at times been begging for us to turn up. It makes a big difference. The 19th man syndrome is real.

I am already feeling for our players come this Friday. What they need from us they most likely won’t get.

The price you pay for barracking for Melbourne 😢

What waffling rubbish

"not as passionate and rusted as we would like to think we are" ???

Seriously, speak for yourself only.

Their current system for Grand Finals is that if you have a reserved seat your barcode is deactivated until 12pm so you can't walk up to level 1,2 or 3.

Sorry FTB - am getting confused.

If an MCC member gets a seat in the GF ballot or not, they can come in when the gates open at say 10am, right?

Why would the club deactivate their barcode?

We're all in M55 on an aisle this week. It would be nice to know if any Demonlanders have seats in the adjacent M54 just so we know were not sitting next to a Carlton bay. It was hideous being next to those dirty masses last week.

I'm in n54. Demon trident member.

Realized im in n54, not m54.

Me too. I was in N54 last week, very close to my regular seat. We needed 7 seats this week and it took the best part of an hour to get into the system so ended up on the lower level.

I doubt it's 50/50, from what I gather, their system will adjust access based on demand? So if 5 times the amount of Carlton members are trying to buy, it will open up more access for Carlton people. In the end there will be 65,000 Blues fans which probably reflects the level of demand from each supporter base this morning, so it's kind of fair?

Still annoyed I spent 40 minutes in the "waiting zone", how can I sit tight at a time like this.

Was only after 1 ticket and no luck.

Will be a MCC walk up on Friday. Still can't believe how many ppl were there early last week from like 2:45pm.

Do they ever close the MCC gates for walk ups? Thinking of going but won’t be able to get there early.

What do you mean by "double-dipping"?

MCC members turn up to the game but don't use the seat they bought on Tiketek coz they go straight to the bar or stand somewhere else?

People reserve on Level 4 but choose to walk up and take a level 1/2/3 seat - hence double dipping because they have two seats and dont use the ones on level 4.

As of last year, on Grand Final day, if you were successful in the MCC GF ballot you could not enter the ground until after 12pm. As such, they deactivated the member barcode that was attached to the reserved seat in the ballot. Otherwise, a member with a reserved seat from the ballot could walk up and take a better seat on the day.

Allocations are 50:50 to competing clubs.

You're forgetting Afl Reserve and GA. Allocation for *club members* is 50:50. Crown was probably 65:35 Collingwood's way last week because AFL Reserve and GA was made up of 90% Collingwood. This week will be no different.

I got a level 1 ticket after attempting several times to buy level 2 premium, apparently too many people were buying them.

If I’m seated near a Carlton fan who upped their Ritalin dose too much, I’ll abandon it and wander around

Maybe it will given its now a Friday not Thursday. I still expect to be outnumbered but itll be closer to 60:40 this time around, maybe even 55:45.

Just realised tickets went on sale today instead of tomorrow.  Any thoughts on how I can get a ticket now?  Do scalpers still exist?

Last week a few people on here were selling their tickets later in the week as they were sick and couldn't make it.

Keep checking back here in case the same happens again. There are bound to be people who can't make it at the last minute.

Collingwood would have had 80% of the AFL reserve and we had 80% of the MCC. That's not why the crowd was so one sided.

The club allocations start at 50:50 but do not finish at 50:50 because bays get reallocated. Calrton ended up with 70% of the public reserve and so they will have around 70% of the crowd.

Because you said ‘please’ i will respond 😉

As an introduction I find it interesting when someone takes a comment in isolation and then puts a spin on it to suit their own narrative. (Andrew Bolt is very good at doing this).

So specifically in relation to your comment ‘you’re on here doing it because you imagined we might turn up to a game that hasn’t happened yet (and has now sold out) Spell please’…. here is my response.

Firstly, to give my response context it is appropriate that I repeat below the original post that I was responding to:-

Fearthebeard stated ‘We are going to be outnumbered at least 60,000 to 30,000 only saved by the 15k of us in the MCC’

It would appear to me that based on quite a few comments made by that person into crowd numbers in previous posts was that he knows what he is talking about.

So my very first two sentences in my response to his post were -

‘Sadly, I think that you are most likely on the mark. Can I hope that you are wrong?’

Nothing too outrageous there, I hope. (Actually, I don’t give a rats).

Back to you. Sure it’s a sell out (was always likely to be). I just am concerned that (based on quite a few other posts from other people) that our numbers may not be as good as last week.

The reason for my concern is very simple.  If we are grossly outnumbered (which appears to be a possibility) what concerns me greatly what the ‘Carlton 19th man’ impact may  have on our playing group. If that concerns you that I am concerned about how many dee fans may turn up or you find that offensive, stiff. It’s just an opinion!

Oh and just to finish off,  I am more than comfortable to restate that I am jealous of the passion shown by some other teams supporters bases. And to be perfectly clear, no I never ever have contemplated changing sides. Sorry to disappoint you. (not really)

Seriously, over and out…..GO DEES!

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
