I think this warrants a thread of its own. ❤️💙

Neale has made a request to the Club. He has expressed his wish to see a Mexican Wave, everyone wearing their Big Freeze beanies in an undulating sea of blue.

Obviously not everyone’s a fan of participating in a Mexican Wave. But it’s not difficult and won’t cost anything, and it clearly means something to Neale, for it’s not often he asks something of the Club. So let’s all do this for Neale!

The Mexican Wave is scheduled to start FIVE MINUTES BEFORE THE END OF THE HALFTIME BREAK. So, should you plan on going to the bar or whatever during the halftime break it would be great if everyone could be back in their seats in time to participate.

This is what you’ll hear Robbo say to kick it off

“Get your beanie on now as Neale has requested that we see a waving sea of blue through the MCG!

We are going to kick off a Mexican wave and start it here, right here behind the goals with the DEMON ARMY and head around the ground into the Shane Warne Stand and back through the members. All right, here we go, DEMON ARMY in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Let’s Go!”

A tip for the ladies: make sure you go to the bathroom as soon as the halftime siren goes because you know what those lines are like when it’s a big game, and you’d hate to miss the Mexican wave 😂

Love it! I’m in.

Also, for those history nerds out there, the Mexican Wave actually originated in the US. It was popularised at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. Hence the name.

The ‘86 World Cup was supposed to be hosted by Columbia, but they couldn’t afford it.

Doing the ‘Colombian Wave’ sounds like a lot more fun.

The only thing that could beat the Mexican wave that World Cup was the hand of God.

I get it but it will be awkward at the time if a player gets badly concussed or there's an injury that is serious and there's silence and suddenly robbos voice comes over l.

I just don't see how the Mexican wave shows off the beanies when you can see them clearly already.

It will take place during the half-time break ...

Neale asked for a Mexican Wave. We did a Mexican Wave. That’s all that needs to be said.

Very emotional seeing him walk thru the guard of honour.  Very poignant seeing him walking unaided. It must have taken every ounce of energy to take that walk.

I might have to change my moniker to Lucifer's Heroes to include him up there with the great Jimmy Stynes.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
