TRAINING: Wednesday 26th April, 2023

Featured Replies

I imagine we will have a very light week on the training track given the short turnaround, and then another interstate trip.

0 stars for the AFL fixturing. First time all year we've had two consecutive games at home all season, and it's coming off a 5 day break. Cheers Gil.

At least after the bye we only travel twice.

Spargo stayed firmly on the ground.

In general that's what I am used to.

The first quarter against the Swans was a show stopper

That’s the worry. He has missed a lot of footy, both high intensity training and matches. We need him back but we need him back all guns blazing and playing 4Q of footy. Half fit or limited game time is not what the team needs. I would rather go with a fully fit alternative defender like a Turner than a player not 100 percent ready.

Goody clearly stated on the weekend that Salo had had an excellent pre season before his injuries about Round 1 and afterwards.  Yes some fitness would be down but not to use your expressions not "half fit or limited game time".

Salo would /should have at least 2 Casey games and not be rushed like last year before he was fully fit and ready.

He might be available for AFL straight after the bye if 4 weeks is realistic time for resumption in VFL.

Goodwin said Salem was a month away. Glad they are going to take their time with him. Need him for the back half of the season.

3 weeks Gorg but with Goody's 'no risk' policy he might be adding the extra week.

What's the old Irish saying...

So Salem is in full training but Goodwin says he's 4 - 5 weeks away, what am I missing? I'd so love a fit Salem at HB for the last 10 weeks of the season

3 weeks away Roost according to Salo

He was on light duties.

The light duties players (Hibbo, McVee, Fritsch) were on the field for about 30 minutes

Was today full training day?

Wonder how they had the forward set up? If so was Petty still there working with the forwards?

No very far from a full training. Just a quick, boisterous run which had a bit more intensity then normal.

They didn't split into the lines.

It has been suggested to me that they won't have a main training session this week.

Next one is the captain's run on Friday, 9.30 am Gosch's paddock. (Probably)

Thanks Kev and all posters difficult to get any serious training in with a five day break when coming off so much travel and a hard tough Monday night game.!!

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
