The crowd got behind the side like I've never seen it before - which made the loss hurt even more.

I was so proud of Bate, Jones and Belly - they worked so hard all day. They'll be hurting like nothing on earth.

It was a major step in the right direction today.

Big points to everybody in the crowd today. The boys would have heard us getting behind them today, and been better for it.

It's just unfortunate that it took until the ball was in the middle of the ground after the Davey 'goal' for us to realise that he hadn't got it, and even then it took the scoreboard to believe it!

but, for those who did show up, we were loud and proud!!!

I know I will be abused for this but I have to say that I find some supporters in our crowd very confusing. People a few rows back seem to abuse every Melbourne player for a variety of things, including but not limited to no effort, poor dosposal, no chasing, etc. This went on throughout the game. Players like Miller, Bruce, McDonald, Neitz all the target. What confused me - no frustrated the hell out of me was the same people giving the playes a standing ovation like I have never heard after the game.

It may have been the disappointment of losing, the frustration of the umpire but I turned to my the people I was with (yes who I was with) and said what are they clapping for. They obviously heard and started to abuse me like the players before hand telling me not to come and not needing supported like me. Maybe it is supporters like them that keep some people away. I hate people who just abuse our players. Perhaps it is just me. If you are going to encourage the team at the end of the game, then do it also during the game.

On saying all this, I would prefer to see the standing ovation for games we put in 4 quarters. We are getting close and hopefully next week. I have just had enough of giving standing ovations worthy of a final win when we lose. I did that all through the 80s when we win one game and by one point. I was probably harsh and I am ready to receive the abuse from everyone here also. It was a good effort by the boys and I recognise this. I look forward to giving them a standing ovation and jumping up and down when we win next week.

I agree, the fans who were there were great. Made it as much of a home ground advantage as we could, shame an MCG cauldron isn't as effective with umpires as a Subiaco or AAMI stadium cauldron.

A small crowd at the MCG is alright, no queue for food, drink, toilet, plenty of space to sit and a seat on the train coming home. But there was plenty of space for a few more to turn up. Hopefully for the Crows game at the G in June we do get a better turnout.

The atmosphere today was great - everyone cheering at every opportunity and really doing our bit to get behind the boys. I can only imagine how the players are feeling as i was shattered at the end of the game - Davey's non goal was the one that peeved me off the most - the out of bounds one was wrong but realistically, we probably didn't have enough time to get it back down our end and convert it. A top effort and just cross our fingers that the injury curse can go hit some other team - we have had more than our share this season........A win is not too far away - bring on the Tigers - round 12!

At the time when our club needs us the most, only 14,000 or so supporters come out and get behind the team.

But for those who did go, the pride of the MFC really showed. The boys gave it their all and the fans were really rowdy and generated a lot of noise. The team lifted for the fans and the fans lifted for the players. inspirational stuff.

4 hours after the game and i still feel robbed, but the guys played for each other and as weird as it sounds, today was one of my most proudest days to be a member for the MFC.

Expect one joke of a man who made a poor Port Adelaide kid cry who was sitting with his Demons supporter grandfather - shamefull, the poor kid cried his eyes out right up till half time, all for waving his flag and doing what you're suppose to do at the footy and cheer you team.

I also saw a middle aged man tear shreds off a kid for hitting him in the head with a record before the start. Good on you mate, what a goose! He then sat there impassively with his kids for the whole game. Not a clap, cheer or boo from the three of them (kids were probably terrified of him). Thanks for coming though, it added to the bottom line crowd figure and is better effort than those who didn't turn up.

The remainder of the crowd were FANTASTIC. Another 10000 making the same amount of noise may have lifted us to a win.

Was a great crowd today in terms cheering and atmosphere.

what is even more frustrating is going to every game, and then getting abused because you go for a team with 'soft' supporters and not being able to properly argue against it. no coincidence that the same game last year, which carried less weight for our season, attracted double the crowd, but probably the same noise level

I make a financial contribution to the Club every year that, for me, is not an insignificant one. I've done so every year since I was ~15. I've also done some volunteer work for the club, albeit only a couple of times.

i for one am forgetting what a big crowd sounds like. hopefully when we beat the dogs and eagles, a few supporters will come back to the g and we can all be reminded of it, and back the boys properly

Despite the small crowd, there really was a "home team" feel about it that you don't normally get.

It was even more hilarious at Jolimont station after the game, a platform full of [censored] off Melbourne supporters, and the train's been delayed about 15-20 minutes and 1 guy gets on the platform and starts venting his frustration at the train service, dropping a few "C" & "F" words. A couple of Connex staff went upto him & started telling him to stop swearing or they'll fine him, and despite there being a few kids around, everybody got behind the bloke and started yelling abuse at the Connex staff. It was bad timing from them seeing as though we were all angry at the result, but it was good to see all the dees supporters getting behind one another!

I watched the match from MCC members with my thirdborn (9 years old) and a few other supporters. The atmosphere was really friendly. Because there were so few people there, it was easy to strike up conversations - there was the couple behind me, the older guy along the row who kept bagging Cameron Bruce and the bloke in front of me who I suspect was Dr Turf.

A win would have topped the day off.
