MELBOURNE V SYDNEY – THE MONGREL REVIEW

I love this guy's analysis! My hat goes off to people who see the game in this detail, meanwhile I am busy shouting ball and getting excited when we score a goal!!

What other way is there to watch the footy?

It's a great read, but not sure I agree with this bit,

" Plenty of late, hard hits, scuffles, following with the elbow when you lose out on a contested mark. Both teams played like they felt hard done by, which in turn created more scuffles, more malice, more venom in the contests."

It's not what I saw.

Yes i agree. This wasn’t a violent game at all. It was slick.
there was some good pack marks, but I didn’t think it was spiteful

This sounds like the rd 2 Brisbane game, but describing only Brisbane.

I thought Buddy played in several instances outside the rules, and is starting to impact his legacy

He is the ultimate protected species, including the reason he went to Sydney

mongrel is an amazing website - very impressive analysis except I disagree Melbourne played "deliberately, cautiously".

We had serious play on intent with rapid ball movement looking to run through the corridor when possible, otherwise attacking via the flanks/pockets.

We lacked caution and played instinctive attacking football.

My Dad and I had the same discussion at the ground during the game

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?
