And then I read she's a former all Australian who struggled with work commitments.

In a perfect world she’d have zero work commitments to worry about since she’d have zero work outside of footy.

I love Goldie but she needs to stop the play on every time thing. She is like a cocker spaniel! Being tackled by two girls and still does it. Ump let her off twice when she took advantage

Absolutely. Very few in the AFLW would have her hands.

Geez it’s more fun watching the girls play than the boys. Take them on down the corridor!

I have a Jack Russell and you're correct. Needs very clear instruction. I'm pretty sure Goldie doesn't [censored] on the oval though.

Good coaching move putting, Goldy and Heath in the centre to stop Freo's clearances in the last quarter.

Generally good players across the board, West, Hore and Purcell when it was needed, Gay down back, Hanks and Mithen all match, Taylor and Zanker swapping roles with each other makes for difficult match ups.

Some smart players on our team, a few that are developing, and some that are "nearly".

Keep building Dees.

She’d be absolutely formidable if she could be afforded the luxury of full time training/playing. And yeah, a focus on her fitness level would just add to her assets.

Great win by the girls they were challenged by a strong team and responded like a good team does and won comfortably in the end. Bowers was great for Freo while Harris, West, Purcell and Hanks were outstanding for the Dees.

I think I'm officially becoming a harsh marker of this team! Last two weeks have been solid enough wins, but I always feel we can do so much more. Watching other top 4 contenders demolish expansion sides probably isn't helping.

I will give credit to Freo though for what they brought for three quarters of the game - easily the best they've put on the park this season in terms of pressure and two-way running. Then fourth quarter we simply put the foot down and got it done.

Seems Stinear is more willing to throw the magnets around this season. It's a good thing in the (slightly) longer season, giving us more options if we need a shake-up in later games. Defense-wise, I worry. Wish Colvin was out there for that extra grit.

I'd think that Goldie will re-calibrate just a tad this week and maybe rein that "go-go-go" in...about 5% 😂

Duffy has some of the best goal sense in the league (we've seen glimpses of it). Agree with WCW, she's never had that "typical" footballer physique and in her earlier time at Freo was probably way fitter than she actually looked. Obviously has some work to do there now, but she'll build that back, I just hope she's loving being a Demon and finding a good balance.

Bannan's having a super frustrating season and probably feeling it. Had some almost moments today. It will come!

Shout out to the fans over there and those that travelled for their great support, could hear you through the TV for sure.

The least said about the umpires the better.

I thought she played her role well. She also got a couple of goals and assisted with a few.

Marks in the 50 arc are important.

She has not been great in games this season, I thought it was a better one for her and hoping she can build on it.

As for below her knees work, I thought even though fumbley,  she kept the ball infront and moving.

Love Goldie, just takes the game on...a little bit too much sometimes.

Just getting her game sense back.

Good move throwing her into the middle for a run.

I like Zanker, reckon she is a smart footballer...the goal assists are a good example of this.

Still young with plenty of upside.

Yep 17 frees to Freo to13 Dees when they were beaten by 5 goals was crazy.

Great to hear the Melbourne supporters on the TV.

Stinnear's changes are great to see and kept Freo on the back foot.

This team is just continuing to build and after watching them be so competitive since the start of the AFLW comp, they really deserve to win a flag.

Hopefully a nice clean run into the finals.

Go Dees

This gal (Freo cheer squad) didn’t let footiness get in the way of her fashion sense (those shoes, though 😬)

Her form is improving, she did take important marks, and she did well not to overrun the ball while she fumbled to pick it up. All true. But she looked like she was wearing ovenmits when it was at her feet. Also, I wish she would use her size to make room for teammates a bit more like Tom McDonald does. We're lucky to have her

I think she's still growing into her size if that makes sense.

Not yet a total wrecking ball like Tay but she has the capacity to do it with a bit more experience.

You still see her thinking through her moves a lot of the time.

I thought Zanker did a nice shepard in the last to make room for one of our players, perhaps Purcell,  to kick a goal.

I get what you mean though. If Taylor is her mentor, she might get there.

Our talls are good, though Gillard had a bad day and must give the opposition headaches.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
