CASEY: PF vs Brisbane

Featured Replies

Forget double header. It's at Casey, unless there is a change of heart...which I very much doubt

Optimistic of a good win on Saturday. We're tough to beat out at Casey Fields at the best of times and by my counting we could have up to 19 AFL listed players run out against the Lions. Throw in Jimmy Munro, Mitch White and Matt Buntine for support and we should have our 3rd Grand Final appearance in the VFL in seven years.

Three Queensland teams in the preliminary final - can someone remind what the V in VFL stands for again?

The biggest threat to Casey winning is Goodwin having a change of heart at the selection table and putting Dunstan and a couple of other Casey guns in the Melbourne side.

My stupid niece is having a birthday party during this game. What a selfish 4 year old!

I'm honestly lucky to watch any game other than the Dees on a given weekend at the moment. Responsibilities galore.

Massive game on Saturday the 10th of September at Casey at 1:10 pm. Casey has just had the bye after beating Sydney by 47 points. Brisbane are also in the PF after beating Carlton by 12 points last week. The winner will play the winner of the Southport v Gold Coast game.

Possible team

B: D.Smith, Turner, Rosman

HB: Bowey, Tomlinson, Rivers

C: Howes, Dunstan, Baker

HF: Laurie, van Rooyen, Joel.Smith

F: Bedford, M.Brown, Chandler

FOLL: Weideman, White, Munro

IC: Buntine, McVee, Woewodin, Moniz-Wakefield, Valentine

I think Rivers will make way for McDonald in the senior team.

I stand to be corrected, but I'm not sure bowey is eligible to play. He has played too many AFL games , more than 12?

I managed to find the rule, 20, but it is extremely difficult to interpret. Written by a very big committee?

I don't believe these restrictions apply whilst the AFL team is still playing. If the AFL side loses this week, Bowey wouldn't be eligible to play in the VFL Grand Final.

It is Rule 20, see subrule b and g.

Really hard to read and I get paid to read stuff and understand it.

What makes it hard is that most of the subrules start off by saying in effect "despite the other rules..." but you end up going in circles.

@poita is right. While our AFL team remains alive, all players are eligible for VFL finals. So a win over the Lions on Friday Night in the AFL ensures we have a full list to choose from for the VFL Grand Final should we make it.

Yes, that is what subrule (e) says, but it is followed by (g) which says despite other rules maximum 12 games. It also says b applies which provides that if a player has played a game in the ones after 1 July, he has to have played 6 VFL games to be eligible.

What complicates matters is that while 20.g is expressed to be despite the other rules, so is 20.e.

Good fodder for the High Court now that appeals to Privy Council are abolished.

But, maybe I'm wrong.

Don't overthink it. Cyril Rioli played 1 game for Box Hill in 2014 which was the Grand Final despite playing exclusively for Hawthorn when fit earlier in the year. Why could he do that?? Because Hawthorn were still alive in the AFL.

Maybe Clarry and May can play a double header. Can't see Casey losing then 🤣

Used to always enjoy a noon pie they sold on the wing at Prahran.

I understand that entry to the preliminary final is free. I assume no need to book tickets, just rock up at the ground?

Due to being no change in the seniors I have to put McDonald in the side.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

  • VOTES: Richmond

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
