Totally respect the reasons and I hope it makes Goody and Co pay attention, reward effort and Casey form with real games not medi-sub selection (or not at all). Nibbler and Spargo both had very patchy form this year and deserved to be dropped for Bedford or Chandler, but GF exploits kept them in the team.

Sad to see Bedford go, good luck to him.

Out of all our departures, Toby and Hunty make me saddest.  Totally get Toby's reasons and wish him all the best, but wish we could have given him more consistent opportunities whilst he was with us.  When he presents, he seems a bit magic!

Must be a bad hamstring poor fella.

I have to confess I’m also glad I’m not going to have witness Bedford breaking out this year with GWS. It’s not that I don’t wish him well, just I was definitely  looking forward to what he might bring us this year before he left.

That's a shame. Seems like a great bloke.

Agree.

Hope he recovers quickly.

I didnt understand the logic of giving Smith another season but  Bedford no cigar.

Maybe he wouldnt of done his hammy if still training with MFC.

Will not forget that brilliant play against Hawthorn. Dusty would have been impressed.

Bedford was offered a 3 year contract

Really ?! If that were the case surely he'd of taken it. GWS wouldnt have offered much more money than mfc. Bedford is a fringe player at best who may or may not improve his consistency.

I believe he took the GWS role because there was more chance of consistent game time, since MFC had quite a few good small forwards ahead of him.

It wasn’t about money or length of contract. Bedford wanted game time which is something he was struggling to get at Melbourne and obviously GWS were able to promise him a spot in their best 22.
We will keep losing good young players if we don’t reward them with game time.

Poor kid I hope he makes a speedy recovery. He’s a very talented young man and deserves a good career.

They have to earn it, and Bedford was always behind Pickett, probably Chandler as well. Sorry to see him go, but just the way of it and there's nothing the club should have done differently.

I think his trade and exit was handled well. He knew his place in the pecking order and a realistic trade was done that said thanks, and we will help get you somewhere to play. I wish good luck to Toby and hope he develops into a good solid player. No ill will from me and I feel sorry for the poor bloke with this unfortunate start.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
