So is anyone going to watch Nathan run around on the 9th? I am hoping he has a bit of fun.

Have been watching a lot of interviews and loving the honesty he brings.

Great to see Nathan Jones playing footy still. Especially for a Demons team!

Portarlington will need a few Nathan Jones Im afraid. They currently sit last on the ladder with zero wins and a percentage of just 16%.

That's the whole point of it all, all the past players are going to clubs that are 'struggling'.

From over here I don't understand what this is all about and how it works. Could someone explain it to me?  I would appreciate your help.

From the little I know it  sounds like a great connection between elite players and the grassroots game. As someone who played suburban football many years ago the idea of playing with or against a player like Nathan Jones would be amazing.

Carlton Draught run something called the Carlton Draft wherein a bunch of recently retired players get drafted for 1 game to struggling country/regional teams (who have nominated for the chance to get the opportunity).

So a feel good story for the small club and they can get some press and some good canteen takings etc.  Also basically an extended advertisement for Carlton Draught - Additionally who doesn't like wordplay.

This year it was as follows;

Alex Rance: May 14 at Campbells Creek
Eddie Betts: May 22 at Branxholme Wallacedale
Dale Thomas: June 4 at Nhill Tigers
Shaun Burgoyne: June 11 at Dalyston
Jarryd Roughead: June 18 at Gormandale
Nathan Jones: July 9 at Portarlington
Brendon Goddard: July 9 at North Wangaratta
Cam Mooney: July 23 at Longwood

This generated a massive amount of interest in the area and the game attracted a whopping crowd, which was a much needed financial boost for the struggling Saints and a huge thrill for his temporary team mates.

Eddie did his bit by booting six goals, albeit in a losing team.  He then stuck around to sign autographs, chat with fans and have a beer with the locals.

It's an excellent initiative and I hope Portlarlington gains many positives from Chunk's appearance.

Daisy helped Nhill to their first win in three years.  I suspect they had a large night at the club!

Sidebar:  The motel in Nhill is called The Zero Inn.  I'm not kidding.

Hey everyone,

Pretty sure Nathan Jones is playing for the Portarlington demons today for the Carlton draft. If anyone is going to watch or has any information feel free to share as I'd like to know how he goes

Well, what a day it was. Jones kicked Ports first goal and the first goal of the match. The crowd went nuts!!! He played very well and geez he’s strong in a tackle. Finished with 2 goals and a stack of possessions.

Id say they only got him to ground 2 or 3 times in a tackle all day.

The crowd was huge and although Port trailed all day and ended up losing by 74pts they were really into the game. Ports average losing margin would be around 180pts or more this year and earlier in the season they lost to Ocean Grove by about 150pts so this was a really good effort by them. It would have been incredible to be out there playing. It was like a league finals atmosphere.

Id say this whole Carlton Draft promotion has achieved exactly what it set out to do for local footy and who ever thought it up and made it all happen needs to be congratulated.

Geez, I wish we could have another game next Saturday!!!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
