Harry Sheezel looked all class today. Hits targets and his overlap running through the midfield was very good. 
Will Ashcroft should be likely #1 pick and matched by Lions as father-son pick. Absolutely a steal. 
Cam Mckenzie is one to like. Class and skill and good turn of pace. Likely onballer or half forward.  Tied to Saints NGA unfortunately.  
Charlie Clarke - smart half forward with good pace.  Alwyn Davey jnr - yes and yes.  He’s got the class of his dad and uncle.  Bombers will be very happy. 
 

WA 

Jedd Buslinger - top 10. Tall key defender and can mark anything in his sights. 
Elijah Hewitt - midfield star. Strong and quick. Rips in and is definitely a Top 10 prospect.

Is he tied to St Kilda the same way that Emile-Brennan is "tied" to us?  

That is, we have no hold on him if he is drafted by another club in the first forty players.

That’s correct. Someone will take McKenzie in the top 40 and St Kilda won’t have the chance to match the bid.

Seven-goal Jefferson, No.1 contender star as Metro downs WA

Matthew Jefferson really did thrust his name before the numerous recruiters sitting in the stands at Ikon Park today when he booted 7 goals for Vic Metro against WA today. Will Ashcroft also shone for the Victorians and remains a likely #1 prospect as a father/son selection for Brisbane. WA’s Elijah Hewitt’s performance was also a highlight in a strange game where there was no wind but most of the scoring was done at one end of the ground. Metro’s accuracy in front of goals was the main difference between two powerful sides.

“My name Jeff” – Metro forward hits seventh heaven

Vic Country beat the Allies by 33 points in a dour struggle in Brisbane which produced far less impressive football than what we saw yesterday at Ikon Park. 

A couple  of Vic Country midfielders in Jhye Clark and Mitch Szybkowski impressed but most of the high end talent that I’ve seen so far is coming from Vic Metro, SA and WA. I should add that Jaxon Binns of Vic Country was a prolific ball winner and worth keeping an eye on.

On what I’ve seen to date I’m not satisfied that we can cover our key position tall forward issues from the players on display in the NAB Australian Championships. I haven’t seen a ruck replacement for Luke Jackson readily available from these ranks if he decides to leave.

Jefferson looked to have some very nice traits, but would take time and want see how he goes with a bit less room to operate in.

As far as ruck prospects go, Harry Barnett from SA could be one and we haven’t seen Matty Elliott’s boy (Will) yet, but he has some talent. Broadbent from WA has some nice traits (but if Jacko does go, will be gun shy on drafting a ruck from WA?). None are quite like Jacko, but Barnett looks very promising:

 

Vic Country 

I was impressed by many of the Vic country youngsters. Standouts for me included 

Mitch Szybkowski - commentators better ask how to pronounce his surname.  He is a tall lean ruck rover type who wins the footy, one grab player who uses it perfectly. A definite first rounder. 
Aaron Cadman - just reminds me of a young Jeremy Cameron. Agile. Good mark. Left footer. Can move around and kick goals or create.  
Oliver Hollands- very smart creative player.  Moves well with good pace and skill. First round likely. 
Jhye Clark - top 10 likely pick.  Wins the footy as a key mid and brings others into the game. Good mark for his size. 
Coby Burgiel - lean half back but pushed into the middle to link up many attacks.  Knows where to position and excellent decision making with the footy.  One youngster to mark down and see across later games.  
Henry Hustwaite- rebounding defender. Mid sized and clean disposal. So composed and never seemed rushed. 
Jaxon Binns - He was outstanding.  His pace and run showed out, as well as his skill with the footy across passing and long kicking (easily kicking 50 metres). But what was super impressive was his smart handballing to advantage including two long handballs where the running player didn’t break stride.  He is a classic wing/small mid, not unlike Andrew Brayshaw or even Sam Walsh in his draft year.  I was hoping Jaxon might be a pick 40 steal but he’s likely to go top 15-20 after yesterdays performance

Don’t think he played. I would imagine that there would be some rotation of players in the squad. One slight knock on him based on some pure hearsay from an acquaintance in the recruiting caper is that he’s very lightly built. He might need time to build up physically before he gets recruited. Of course, if that was the case then Robbie Flower would never have been recruited.

Good listen for those that are interested.

Small discussion on Finn Emile-Brennan with suggestions that he could still be available after pick 40 however his kicking is a real weapon and may have appeal to clubs earlier than that.

Aaron Cadman mentioned by Cal as the leading forward of the draft and likened to Harry McKay in the way that he's progressing.

Both comments made around the 10.40 mark onwards. Their timestamps on the episode guide seem way off.

Cal also a big wrap for Harley Reid for next years draft.

One of the Foxtel commentators said that Vic Metro’s Cam McKenzie who is a St Kilda NGA (both parents are South African) will be this year’s Mac Andrew and get picked up in the first 40 by another club.

He’s considered a top 20 prospect so yes, he’s not likely to be picked up by the Saints unless they draft him with their first round pick.

Nah, Gold Coast will grab him with an early pick and then play him in their 2s for the next five years.

Zane Duursma also was very impressive. Not eligible until 2023 draft.  Really impressive size and skill. Agile and quick like his brother Xavier.

Finn Emile-Brennan was an emergency for the game.

There was a NAB Championship game on yesterday but from all accounts, it was more than somewhat lacklustre. The reigning champions (from 2019) were beaten again.

Vic Metro slaughtered SA today at GMHBA Stadium with captain Will Ashcroft again dominating.

In the second game, Vic Country are doing a number on WA. 

The two Victorian teams look like being undefeated after this week and are due to meet in the last round of matches in what will effectively be the grand final.
