For years everyone (myself included) would be nothing but frustrated but our long bomb to the members flank/wing.

 

All of a sudden it seems to work. Any thoughts on why? I find it fascinating. Even if we chip into the pocket the next one seems to be a dump down the line to Gawn/McDonald.

We don't care if our opponent knows what we're going to do. We say "so what, we'll do it and we'll make it work".

May always kick the same way, down the line. Its so predictable. But if max can't get it Langdon or Brayshaw crumb it.

May only has two tactics. Both are to the same side of the ground.

1. Long, down line to a ruck target, or

2. Short, 20-metre kick to pocket where recipient (smaller running player) looks to play on immediately and attack the corridor.

How long have we been doing this, the last 2 and a bit seasons? It’s incredible that it just works. Teams still structure up as if we might go to the right but it is almost always long down the line to the left.

The reason why we do this is because we are a highly skilled contested marking team and the best ground ball get team in the game by far (We are +23 better per game on average, the next best team is +8).

The ball goes to a contest where we back ourselves to either;
A) Take the mark
B) Get the ground ball get
Or worst case scenario's
C) Force a ball up with a tackle if we lose the ground ball get
D) Force the ball out of bounds for a throw in with a spoil

We have the talent to win the contest and back ourselves to do it.

Finally we have come to this. We play our own game and let the oppos worry. Hallelujah!

It's all about the set up,  normally we have at least 1, if not both ruckman and 1 of the tall forwards there. With 1 or 2 inside mids or AN standing under the pack and langdon on the outside.  They have numbers there too, we just back ourselves to win or break even everytime
