  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Does anyone else find it perverse?

The club comes before the individual, any individual, be it a player or a coach.

Everyone who posts here has the best interests of the club at heart.

Some believe that Daniher's coaching is no longer in our best interests.

You can hardly blame Melbourne supporters for being frustrated, fed up and ready for a change.

You've been reading these boards long enough to know that the calls for Daniher to be replaced are nothing new. In his 10th year as coach, and still no premiership, time seems to be well and truly ticking.

It will be unfortunate if in the end, a long and miserable injury list, is what brings him down.

Mind you, our issues run deeper than our injury list.

Edit: I hate to shatter your dreams, but we are no chance to finish top 4, which means we are no chance to win a premiership, which makes all the points I made above valid.

True, I hope neale keeps his job because to do so means a drastic turnaround.

That however looks unlikely to say the least but gee I hope it does happen.

I also hope Yze, Godfrey, Miller, Bate, ward, Jamar and everyone else on our list performs at their best because lets remember winning games of football is so much more important then being able to come on this board and say on Sunday night 'I told you so'.

I can't accept the level of mediocrity some supporters are perpetually willing to absorb.

A true supporter accepts things as they are, takes the bad with the good or indifferent and turns up every week.

What would you prefer?

No one turns up to games or signs up as members as some form of protest against the fact we haven't won anything for 43 years and because the current team is struggling?

As for the comment "I support a club, not an individual." Good point but while Daniher is coach he is part of this club and I will support him.

.... that there are a number of people on here hoping someone loses their job?

FWIW, I sense Daniher to be a realist. 10 years as senior coach has exceeded his personal expectations by a mile. Time for him to join an elite company of former coaches who have been there, done that eg; Matthews, Blight..only difference is, these guys have silverware.

Sage words, my friend.

It amazes me how people think they can create positive change with negative bitching and moaning!

Daniher has no idea. After 10 years enough is enough. Windy Hill beckons. If still in doubt Slander, read my previous post.

I am sure Neale would totally agree. Its just a damn shame he is clueless.

A director of the melbourne football club is my godfather and old man's best mate. having spoken to him today, there are 7 or so players that he thought won't be playing next year. He said Bizzell should play, and its ridiculous how the club gives him a 3 year contract and he cant get a game ahead of these 7 other players. And expect some changes to the side this week. petterd and buckley seem likely to get a gig.

ive been following these boys in red and blue for near 43 years. Ive done my dues of following though thick and thin... well mainly thin..as we havent really had any succes in all that time ( sorry if its my fault ...lol ) . we all follow and support this team in varying ways according to oportunity and priorities. But essentially we follow and barrack for Melbourne for whatever reason it is.

Tell me please where the quality or passion for a club is comensurate with any form of masochism. Why put up with just any slop thats put up before you? does one do this with other elements of life ? actually some do..and in their realm nothing changes. If you are prepared to cop medicrioty ...bully for you. If you wear disappointment and under-achievement as some badge of honour, then I suggest we have very differing ideas of goals.

I dont expect success out of our club...I just want it. If inthe process of this achievement those that have tried and failed are passed over or indeed put to the sword, well thats life. They would have known thats the course of events should failure be their record.

There simply has to be a point where you call enough as being enough.

I don't think you'll find a lot of posters who don't go to games as some sort of punishment to the club.

I go every week, and I stay until the final siren even if we are getting our arses handed to us on a plate (like on Sunday).

Let me ask you this, do you blindly support every player who pulls on a Melbourne gurnsey, or are you enough of a realist to recognise that some players (if not all) have their downfalls?

How is that any different to Daniher? Yes, he's done a great job promoting our football club. He has battled on despite board upheavals, draft penalties, poor finances and facilities and so on, but his primary job (as he said himself) is to win games.

As a 10 year coach, he needs to be judged on his performances, not in isolation, but over the whole 10 year period. 7 years ago he got us to a grand final. 4 years ago, we were bottom 4. For the past 3 seasons who scrapped into the top 8 and were extremely disappointing in September. All this while having a relatively good run with injuries.

This year we will no doubt struggle because we have significant injuries. Nobody blames Daniher for that, but in the big scheme of things we will again be unsuccessful.

Bottom line is, he hasn't got us what we all want, a premiership. Does that make him a bad person? Of course not. Does that make him a bad coach? Not even. Does that make him a candidate for criticism? Absolutely.

A lot of supporters, myself included, don't want to get rid of Daniher for the sake of getting rid of him. We want him gone because we can't see a change happening any other way.

BTW, I've always maintained that it's not who you criticise, but how you do it.

directors can exert pressure...directors dont pick teams. So who are the seven not playig in red and blue next year ?

it would be silly to name them as they might play next year, and i also dont want to start anything, but he said that amongst the board list management seems to be the problem from us winning a flag. and we discussed players.

Seekers,

FWIW I also think Daniher is a realist and understands that anything other than top four will probably se him not get another contract.

I have disagreed with some of the things he has done (particularly during matches!) down the years, however to reach the highest level of coaching and playing AFL commands some level of respect. Coaching is by no means an easy gig at any level especially in the AFL where fortunes (and supporters) can be fickle.

This thread isn't directed at people like you or Jaded who give a realistic perspective of the situation. It's more directed at the litany of morans who write things along the line of "ZOMG I hope he lose his jarb as we will b sooo much betterer under Garry Lyon or Michael Voss!!1!1"

I just find it sad that there are people who seem to be enjoying our and Daniher's plight at the moment! Because those fates are very much intwined.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
