It’s just struck me that we haven’t had the traditional family day this year. I guess they thought the December event was it. Seems strange to miss an opportunity to sell more memberships and merch

I know what you are saying Demonland our last family day was in 2019 when we got to meet Steven May for the first time, Out family had a great day mingling with fellow supporters and a lot of the younger players including Clayton who was very obliging.❤️💙💕

Could it be that they are taking a really safe approach to the players mingling with supporters as Covid is still out there in the community.

Good point longsuffering. With life starting to feel normal again I forget this

Yet we did a Premiership celebration at the G with 30,000 fans

Perhaps the club could've been creative and set up a family day that wasn't as up close and personal as past events

Or used technology to make an event that could involve players and families. Not ideal, but better than no engagement

Would be interesting to know what other clubs are currently doing to encourage fresh, young fans. Anyone got any info on this?

How come my kids and I can watch Norf train at Arden St and chat with players over the fence but I can't get near Melbourne's training or players?

yes, but there was no crowd mixing with players or staff

plus crowd had to be double vaxxed and masked

family day is all about mingling

Put your creative hat on daisycutter. There are many ways we could approach it. Fans know that mingling isn't going to happen

Once again, the Hawk are one step ahead:

Even the Pies are doing something:

Man, there’s no pleasing some people. Be thankful that we can attend matches this year.
You won’t read this since you’ve got me on ignore. I just feel better having said it. Thanksies! 😁

My young kid, who hasn't reached an age yet where footy is a massive interest, is still talking about the big day at the G and how good it was. Club did an amazing job on the day, and I don't recall there ever being 35k at a family day in the past.

Pretty clearly that was our family day, and I reckon we've got more excited kids still buzzing from that than the Hawks or Pies do from watching training and seeing a mascot from at least 1.5m away.

Ok then, we're doing brilliantly on all fronts and there's no need for improvement! Better than the Hawks and Pies. And no, of course I'm not saying you said that

My tribe would love a smaller club family day on top of the day at the G, and we'd bring other kids and spend more $, but that is anecdotal, just like your family story

The day at the G was great for the club, on that we can all agree

Over and out

Just reading the Hawthorn family day promotion there is no mixing with the players.. I wonder if the main reason for the popularity of family day is this availability of some contact with the players. Would the same numbers attend if they were not available for the usual close contact.

Historically there has always been the Club training/BBQ on the weekend before the first game at Gosch’s which was always well attended by families because of the Club made the players available for chats and autographs but obviously this is not available this year.

Hopefully the players will be able to make their yearly calls to Juniors which I think they do around the beginning of the season.

If you want to support the Club buy the kids some more merchandise which goes straight back to the Club.

Would love another one, more like the traditional family day, I just think given COVID is still hanging around that perhaps the club decided the premiership celebration would cover that base? It's always a great day, my kid and my friends kids that all go along together usually enjoy the animals and the ice creams more than anything footy related though, so I just reckon the big day at the G has given us something unique in that way. That's just my experience anyways.

It's just a different scenario to usual unfortunately, so I'll hold fire until I see what the club does to engage kids more once there's more certainty around which way everything is going.

No other Clubs have had Family Days so it's an obvious Covid thing!

My kids ask about the family day as well as they still remember the last one we got to go to but I get it - imagine we had one and covid knocked out a couple of key players from round 1? I understand the cautious approach

Having seen the devastation of Covid19 health and safety procedures on Fremantle's women's team on Saturday night (not taking anything away from our team's effort but ...), I think it's not a great idea for the players to mingle with fans in crowds just yet.

Agreed. Now is not the time.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
