Gay, Lampard n sherriff

Covid paranoia will make the changes for next week. And why would you drop Fitzsimons ?

Fitzsimons has earned another run IMO. Got to reward that.

Feels like the 'protocols' five are walk-up starts though.

Petrevski, Magee and Parry in the mix to miss. Anyone remotely in need of a refresh should get that, though unlikely at this early stage.

Depth is the key this season - early season game time could prove vital for some of the lesser lights to jump in later...but how far can this be pushed without sacrificing team synergy and the form of the big guns?

Agree with the additions but Fitzsimon and Petrevski unlucky to miss out. Very strong squad this year.

Checked out the training gallery, thinking I might get some insight into whether any of last week's five have served their Covid protocol time already. But no, only players from last week's team included.

However, great to see Purcell up and running. A month away by my count, fingers crossed for no setbacks.

She's unlucky but who would be the 5 you would drop for those 5 regulars.

Injury update - Mick gives the timeline of last round's Covid impact. Gay, Lampard and Sherriff were all ruled out just 24 hours before the game, so a great effort to adjust quickly. As we all understand with Covid, seems like some feeling the effects more/longer than others.

The 3 in would be Gay, Heath and Scott. Out would probably be Brown, Petrevski and McGee.

Excellent ins. Unfortunate for Lily.

Parry needs to raise her game. Contributed little thus far

The saints have dropped Greisner. She was the reason we lost to them 2 years ago so good for us she isn't playing. That said she was very off the pace against the pies last week.

Aside from Mithen it’s a strong line up we will put out.
The two ex Demons playing for the Saints - Cat Phillips and Bianca Jakobsson - are going to have their hands full.
It should be a regulation win for Melbourne over an undermanned Saints outfit

Then off to Adelaide to play the undefeated Crows. That’ll be big

Madi Gay must have a decent cold ? It is a pity she is not back in.

Besides Mithen and Gay it's a full strength side should win this game comfortably.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
