Maybe some of his new found success can be attributed to his reverse Samson hair cut!

He needs a key forward coach to teach him leading patterns, body positioning etc

We are coaching him to stand still and wrestle his opponent so the midfielders can bomb it on his head, it is moronic.

Looks like this has been addressed.

@Dr. Gonzo

F knows what coaching he was receiving previously, looks like a new recruit.

🙏

Looks a lot stronger than previous years.

This will do heaps for his confidence.

I've seen him get really down on himself with his body language.

Hopefully this is his best year and filled him with loads of confidence.

A power fwd capable of kicking 6 goals is what's been missing from our club since Hogan and to a lesser extent...Tmac.

Petty definitely isn't a fwd so great to have him play where he belongs.

What's interesting about this game is that Fritta and Kozzie didn't impact the score too much.

Interesting that Tracca kicked 4g and one behind. Was never tgat accurate with us.

But I think moving several players on has done the world of good.

Although I would have kept May and tried him as a fwd. Couldn't hurt. He wasn't that bad.

No he doesn’t? He looks thinner. He’s lost 4kg and it’s clearly helped

Yea but the way he outmuscled opponents made him.look stronger.

He may have lost weight but I reckon he's still stronger.

May became a distraction the moment he was hit by Melksham. He was an awesome FB but his time at the club was well and truly up.

Six goals and one behind.

Great set shot.

Hopefully this is his breakout year.

Keep going Roo.

We placed a lot on his shoulders and felt somewhat let down.

But he has shown us what he can do with proper fwd entire

He never let me down, if you felt let down by a kid who from is second season was almost the sole key forward with almost no other key forwards to help him, then what does that say about you?

Same forward line coach. He's addressed what has changed for him (mainly between the ears).

Leaner but more muscle, which makes him stronger

He was coached to play to the gameplan. It was idiotic and didn't play to his strengths. Thank god we've got someone now who knows the best way to make a forward look good is to give them space and put the ball out in front of them. You don't need to be lasering darts onto their chest coming out of the square, you just need to pop it out in space so they can run onto the ball and mark out in front. Makes both the kicker and the recipient look a million bucks.

I've always had faith in JVR and he still has a way to go but I think the weekend showed what he is capable of when given the chance in a decent system.

I listened to him on SEN with Cornes and Morris, he was open honest and much more mature than I have previously heard I would say a bit more confident in his own abilities. He said Mark Williams was his previous kicking coach and he mentioned that Mihocek and his forward line coach have had a big impact on him this year. Not to mention the game plan and having the coach in his corner, self belief is a funny thing.

Agree that style is moronic and deflating to a young player.

How hard is it to tell player to lead into space and for the guys with the ball to kick it towards him and let him run onto it.

Evidently, not that hard 😉

Thanks Waverley.

I guess if nothing else it says I'm honest in my opinions be they right or wrong.

For me I was just surprised after a stellar start four years ago when I think he kicked over 35 odd goals but then each consecutive season thereafter he kicked less with 2025 being his lowest tally. And that after 3 full seasons under him.

I didn't really give up on him but literally speaking from my post, you could say I did. Which was tough, because your right hes young and had some disadvantages I mention in the 2nd paragraphafter this. I was, howevever, getting concerned about his decline. I'm sure lots of others were as well.

Apparently he was too, which is a credit to him because he's taken steps since to improve his game. I heard he got " tutored" by a sports psychologist.

In many of my other posts about him I'm pretty sure I've never said anything untoward about him and have expressed several times he's been given a tough job of being a forward and having to ruck a lot which I have always believed has hindered him. And as an extra challenge for Jvr, for the last few years our fwd entries often sucked.

In hindsight, maybe my post reflects I'm not as optimistic as you or that I don't express myself as clearly as I could. It's hard to analyse oneself. Especially when I'm talking about footy and Mfcss makes me lose all rationale.

I'll try and take a leaf from your book going forward and be more positive. No pun intended.

And while still early days, I'm sure we can at least both agree that he's finally going places. In a good way. Six goals one.

WOW.

Career high tally and he's got his goal kicking boot back on. Something else that seemed to be going backwards. But It was great to see him celebrate all his goals along with his teammates.

Perhaps it was about knowing what he can do and seeing him decline that had me all turned around but your right. You didn't say it, but I was certainly a tad judgemental.

Cheers.

Yea I think your right. I felt like he had some more footy in him despite losing form but I reckon there was stuff going on we are not being told.

In fact Kudos to the club for making several tough calls.

I felt letting Tracca go hurt ( Norm Smith medalist) especially when he finally kicks 4 goals 1, but if someone doesn't want to be at the best club in the world......so long. You were lucky in the first instance.

I do hope Lever picks up though.

First game could just be rusty as he got better towards the end.

May's a big strong bloke but my money would be on Jake. He's just all muscle

Is he still on our list?

If not he would make a good fwd coach.

He seemed to move other players out of the way better than he used too. Maybe he's got more leg muscle. Doesn't really add up though if he's lost 4 kegs and put on more muscle. I always thought muscle weighed more than body fat.

But i reckon he's gained both strenth and speed and the ball was sticking to his hands like Trump to a dollar bill.

I would like to see him have instructions next week to stay as close to the goal square as possible and not venture to far from it.

Imagine he and Kozzie there together with lots of space.

Although unfortunately, he will probably have to ruck more given Max is probably knackered and up against two big guns at Freo. One a former Drmon who I've changed my mind and I Hope comes back soon to the warm and nurturing ( metaphorical) bossum of the the Mfc. You never know.

I’ll start getting really excited if he plays well against Freo and continues to have a good month, because although he had a great game, we have have to be honest, Caminitti is a terrible footballer

And this week ... Oscar McDonald.

but what a goal it was!

It took Watts an entire career to kick one as impactful, and Jessie Hogan never did!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
