I have no idea as to why there’s been so little focus on this player. He was mentioned in Kevin Sheehan’s article about tall forward and ruck prospects Kevin Sheehan reveals his top NAB AFL Draft Prospects: Tall forwards/rucks which has its own separate thread on Demonland. This was Shifter’s summation:-

"Sam Paea
Calder Cannons, NAB League / Aberfeldie FC
State: Victoria (Metro)
Height: 194cm
Weight: 94kg
Date of Birth: 14/07/02

Tall forward whose hard running allows him to consistently present as a marking target up forward. Strong overhead and good below the knees, he was a member of the Victoria Metro under-19 squad as well as playing in the Young Guns game earlier in the year. Strong performer for the Calder Cannons in seven games, and outstanding late in the shortened season, kicking four goals against the Jets and five goals against the Falcons to be his team's best. Had a taste of VFL with Essendon as he continued his development. Comes from a sporting family with father representing New Zealand in basketball".

I only took notice of him today when he was mentioned as an “intriguing” player by Jon Ralph in today’s Herald Sun article (see thread on the NAB AFL Draft Combine) but given those two bags of 4 and 5 goals late in the season, would he be worth considering as a late draft/rookie selection?

We need another developing KPF as a possible replacement for Brown and Tmac.

I would actually be happy if we picked up 2 of them.

I've checked a few of the big footy phantom drafts and Paea wasn't mentioned on the first three rounds.

Could we pick this guy up with a later pick?

JT seems to have an emphasis on drafting highly competitive players but also players who blossom late. He talks about it alot when interviewed and has said Taj Woewodin really showed improvement in the late part of the season, which is a dead giveaway we will pick him under F/son.

Sam Peaa has clearly blossomed late. If he has a competivee streak in him he will be on our radar.

There are lots of intriguing aspects to this year's drafts and this guy adds to the intrigue.

The NAB Boys League Team of the Year has two players named in key forward positions who between them kicked 3 goals for the competition. This bloke kicked 9 in just two games. Makes you wonder what criteria the judges over there apply when they pick players in their Team of the Year.

The bio is fabulous. He sounds like a real contender with lots of upside.

I note that he comes from a sporting family with father representing NZ in basketball. I wonder why he isn't in somebody's NGA?

I have discovered that he was invited to the Draft Combine. This means that he's going to be at that trial day at Sandringham on Monday.

I know nothing about him but he’s an overager with a fairly mature body given the weight, and probably a touch undersized too.

Every year there’s very good goal kickers at junior level who don’t have the athleticism and talent to be AFL players.

The odds are that’s where this guy fits.
