I think Nathan made that decision to leave for family rather than wait for the grand final team to be listed giving the coaches a clear path to selection.

If he stayed I think a token game as 23rd man might have happened denying a young player the opportunity to be a part of the 23 players in a premiership team.

One thing I took out of that interview was Nick Reiwoldt is still [censored] off at St Kilda for giving him the flick.

Riewoldt is great after footy. Honest, funny and cogent. Brown is the first two but tends to eat and chew on any word with more than two syllables.

And Lyon was one of the group to select Mark Neeld as coach. FFS.

Remember it as the Melbourne footy club who made that decision…

It was the darkest nadir that led us to rock bottom and eventually out and up to where we are now.

I did feel like Saint Nick was trying to put words in his mouth, but Jones has  understanding that what you deserve and what you get in footy are in no way related.   Life (and by extension footy) is often cruellest to the most loyal of servants.  There have been many of them for the club that have never had the opportunity to play in a GF, let alone a premiership.   It's been cruel to Jones right at the end, but Chunk more than Nick seemed to understand that Fairytales are for kindergarten and this is the real world.  He  deserved more, but at the same time there's a very special place in our hearts for players like him and Robbie who gave so much to the club and who never got to reap the rewards for their bravery and loyalty.

As mentioned earlier AFL 360 and On The Couch was exceptional viewing last night it was great to watch and listen to Hardwick and Clarko with their guard down talking so openly. Gerard, Nick, Browny and Gaz also very entertaining as well. It helped that they all went for the Dees. Jonesy spoke like the legend he is, you could see the pain of missing out but also the pride that he has in our footy club and the coaches and playing group. Sad in his own plight but also greatful that he got him in time to welcome their twins into the world. We all love Nathan Jones for who he is and what he has helped the club achieve.!!!

Thanks Nathan Jones.💕💙❤️

In some ways you'd have to think Nathan would know we're here in large part because of him, and in that way it would be his premiership as well, as much as it would sting to not be out there.

was a little bit emotional listening to him, a guy who kept the MFC alive through it's darkest days

Maybe it's overly sentimental, but its feels like Nathan is showing us all the way in this strange week. Like him, many of us are potentially missing out on a dream. While obviously as supporters it's a different kind of thing, if we can take the same approach to it all that Nathan is, I think that would serve us well. Anger, frustration, hurt and bitterness are perfectly understandable and legitimate, but like Nathan, we know our part in getting to this grand final and the corresponding feelings of pride in the team are deserved and should be enjoyed despite the circumstances. He's lucky to have a healthy dose of perspective provided by the new twins and I only hope that we can all find ways (though maybe not so life-changing!) to make the most of this time.

A true leader to the end, Jonesy.

Brown is occasionally funny, but he's got no idea what he's talking about, which just goes to show being an ex footballer doesn't automatically mean you understand the game or how to analyse it. The best thing he has to offer is anecdotes of his 2001-2003 Brisbane days and Leigh Matthews. That's about it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
