The reality is the club has invested a fair bit of money into him, and doesn’t see the value in letting him go now. He’s also aware that the suitors aren’t going to make his life easier. Ben wouldn’t have spoken highly of North, and GCS are blooding King for Sam’s role. He wasn’t leaving for greener pastures, and the money wouldn’t have been worth the move.

I hope Sam can come on and be a regular player, but I suspect he’s shifted in the pecking order from being the future forward to being the backup forward. I want to be wrong, because his age is perfect for the group.

He has a full pre season to get up and ready for a big year. More muscle, more confidence and belief via Choco and we will see if he can become a regular again.

I am actually surprised that he has not moved on. It would appear the club wanted him to stay.

My guess is he decided he was better off with a little less salary and playing for a top side.

In the end he is really only one injury away from a regular spot in a top team.

at the start of the season, the plan was sideshow bob and weed as the key forwards with plugger mac as the defensive wingman

a lot can change in the space of a few weeks and a couple of injuries

good luck to him in 2022 and beyond

Would be nice to walk into training past the 2021 Premiership Cup.

Wasn't far off.
Missed a few shots which opened the door.
Could see in his face he knew he was letting his chance slip to Brown.
If Brown or Tmac drop off for whatever reason Weid will be there play his role.
Obviously loves the environment if he's willing to take a pay cut rather than chase more coin elsewhere.

He knew it and it hit him hard in the week following his last game. He was shattered. I heard this from someone close to him

I suspect there's a bit of that interview which didn't make the final cut where he admitted that his real reason for staying was that after six years, Demonland posters now spell his name more often correctly than incorrectly. He couldn't face waiting another six years for the supporters of another club to get it right.

I hope that he comes to conclusion that he has to perform to earn a spot in the AFL team and you need to perform consistently week in and week out to maintain your spot because someone in the VFL is trying his guts out to get that spot.

See what happened to Hunt got injured and Bowey who earned his spot was put into the team and performed to a very high level each and every week.

Unfortunately we cannot play 10 extra players  in the team because  there is a very good depth of talent in the current squad unlike previous seasons.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
