Couldn’t agree more….the present set up does not reflect ourselves, although a lot would have to change in Canberra for the political will to change a la Canada.

Yep. Leave the flag as is and take out the union jack.

I'd remove the Union Jack but replace that portion of the flag with the indigenous flag

Forever recognising the original inhabitants of our great country

I first saw that used in the film, Event Horizon.  Sam Neill was wearing it on his suit...

Well there you go ... never knew,  HT

Looks good too

And I don't dislike or hate the union jack ... it's just time to move on and recognise other, more important aspects to our history (and that goes back approximately 40,000 years)

By the way, 'Event Horizon' - good movie!

I am not going to argue with you as you have a fair point however I believe this may be controversial. I would have it just blue.

Of course,  it would be controversial ... but if it was passed through at a referendum then the majority vote would rule

But it would probably be even more difficult to remove the union jack

It's all a bit of a moot point as I can't see a move for real change in the foreseeable future anyway

Ad for the national anthem ...

We first replaced God save the Queen in 1974 (Whitlam) with Advance Australia Fair only for GSTQ to be reinstated in 1976 (Fraser) and then back to AAF in 1984 (Hawke) ... back then the ALP & the Coalition favoured one over the other (thus, the back & forth)

Gough led the original charge from memory

I remember voting for Waltzing Matilda in a referedum back in 1977 (?)

If such a flag was agreed to, I’d prefer that the kangaroo was replaced by the stars of the southern cross (in yellow).  Having said that though, appropriating the indigenous flag in this way (removing the sun which is an integral part of their flag), might not sit well with the first nations’ people.  That’s why it probably makes more sense to have it replace the Union Jack on the existing flag, or go with an entirely different design that doesn’t lend itself to any existing flags at all.

Also, why would we want a flag like the first of those two, that uses the QANTAS kangaroo??

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
