OK, listen up you freaks and listen good.

The past couple of brainteasers have obviously been too easy which has led to the totally unacceptable outcome of people solving them in short time.

This clearly cannot continue to go on in the same manner, so I have attempted to make this week's teaser more challenging.

Here is a team consisting of current AFL players, all of whom should be familiar to you.

What is the connection?

B:   Nick Coffield    Dylan Grimes    Isaac Quaynor

H/B:   Kyle Langford    Dan Houston    Zac Williams

C:   Lachie Hunter    Andrew Brayshaw    Rory Sloane

H/F:   Michael Walters    Mitch McGovern    Nakia Cockatoo

F:   Taylor Walker    Darcy Cameron    Dayne Zorko

R:   Rory Thompson    Jarrod Lyons    Sam Walsh

I/C:   Eddie Betts    Chad Wingard    Dyson Heppell    Mitch Duncan

Easy. Numbers 1 to 22.

So much for being more challenging, then!

Well spotted Clintosaurus; I thought this one might take some time to solve.

Seeing as it's gone off so quickly, here's another one I prepared earlier.

As usual, I'm looking for what the players in this team have in common.

B:  Hayden Young   Ben Hart   Daniel Rich

H/B:  Matthew Collins   Trevor Barker   Darcy Tucker

C:  Scott Thompson   Nathan Jones   Oskar Baker

H/F:  Dale Thomas   Jack Watts   Stephen Powell

F:   Charlie Cameron   Michael Roach   Shaun Smith

R:  Mark Lee   Nathan Burke   Sam Mitchell

I/C:  Daniel Ward   Nick Blakey   Lewis Taylor   Brodie Holland

Is there a prominent Welsh poet on the Half Forward line @demonstone?

*edit also a british/welsh politician on the half forward line.

** ok two lines of enquiry.

Nationality and Literature.

Sorry Swollen Shallot, neither of these are close to the answer.

As a minuscule clue, there is one particular Demonlander (who I can't recall participating in these teasers) who would instantly identify the common factor.

the only other topic I have would be Indigenous Australians?

I’m so sh*t at these. How about a majuscule clue?

Please. Pretty please!

I’m not above begging

I'm skeptical. I don't reckon there's any connection unless it's to do with the spelling of names or something.

Not an Indigenous connection.

Majuscule clue:  Nothing to do with football or guernsey numbers.

I'm intrigued that you nonetheless have them all playing in their notionally correct positions!

Thinking, thinking, thinking...

There's a connection alright.  Only one of us would try to troll Demonland.

I'll leave this open until somebody inevitably works it out.

Funny how it goes.  I thought the initial quiz was difficult (lasted three nanoseconds) and this one much easier.

Backward names?

Are you really skeptical? Or do you just phrase things from a negative perspective as a rule of thumb?

can you seriously imagine someone, having run 4/5 other brain teasers suddenly presenting one and saying there is a connection when there isn’t, just to have a laff?

A red herring, perhaps?

Agreed Onion. You just come across as such a sad miserable [censored] Dr. D. Keep up the good work Demonstone, and go Dees!!

I give up. :) I've ruled out jumper numbers, spelling of names, tattoos, helmet wearers and hair colour.

A little aggressive I would've thought. Pretty content actually :) I just perceive most posters as fanciful. It's like if you go and read another clubs forum. Half the stuff you read makes you laugh at how biased it is. I'm very even-keeled and am completely impartial. Maybe being slightly more critical than most, aka the way Gary Lyon sees Melbourne.

You are not impartial, and you simply took a chance to pot a fellow poster who is just having a bit of fun and filling in the gaps between games.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
