Surprise, surprise. Got off with just a $600 fine for his offence:

"The lawyer told the court Mr Watts was not paying attention while driving. He said his client initially stopped the vehicle and saw nobody was injured before he “panicked” and drove off....The court heard he then turned himself into police at the Holden Hill police station the following day.....The magistrate said the fact Mr Watts reported the incident to police the following day and contacted the vehicle's owner was the reason for the lesser sentence."

No doubt the cops didn't drug test him the following day either.

Deviating the thread back to the original story, is he still playing for Old Brighton? Only ask because it’s just down the road from me.

I was at this game, with two pies supporters...

It's a funny game footy, one of millimetres.

A ripping, desperate spoil from Hibberd and a clever kick from Oscar to Harmes advantage. The 29 for Collingwood (Tim Broomhead?) looked like he couldn't chase down a runaway souvlaki.

The kick from Harmes to Watts wasn't a particularly difficult one, albeit harder due to fatigue, ver late in the game. The ball bounced twice, a metre or so in front of Jack not far from the boundary, it easily could have jagged a different way and run out of bounds.

Very pleased it didn't! ?

My boy and I were in Level 1, punt road end. Will never forget the roar of the crowd behind us when he kicked that. I still get goosebumps.

Ah, that feeling when you grew up in Preston, chose the Dees as your team because the rest of your siblings were Bombers fans and you wanted to be different, then the talk of Brighton Grammar comes up. ?

Bloody sad too.

I felt that goal might have officially announced Jack's coming of age. From memory, he hadn't been overly prolific that game, but I HOPED the penny had dropped and that he had learnt that you don't need to play a Jonathan Brown comeback game in 2005 every week. I hoped he had finally learnt that if you kept presenting, running and contesting, you will find an opportunity to influence the game in some fashion. That goal was point in case, as his gut running to make that happen was fantastic.

Also, don't forget he played a handy game against the Doggies before he got injured. He played to the standard most of us expected (2 to 3 goal, 6 to 7 marks, clean ball use).

Then after doing his hammy, he decided to go to bloody Byron Bay to [censored] his board shorts instead of focusing on his rehab. When he finally got back into the team, it was clear he wasn't at full match fitness and became a bloody liability in the games he did play.

Game (and MFC career) over.

Good summary Col, and agree, it is sad.
It was hard not to like Jack, despite obvious frustrations.

They can’t drug test the next day, it has to be at the time. If he tested positive from a test the following day he could just say he took some gear after the accident…
