My Round 6 Preview and Prediction

Featured Replies

I think Dusty could be the difference here, he loves a big occasion and his 250th is fairly significant.

Love him or loathe him, he is a very, very good footballer.

If nothing else, it's a good chance for our guys to experience finals like atmosphere and learn from it

I see this game as a free hit in a lot of ways, number one most important thing is to stay with them deep into the match.

Above to me will be the 'fascinating' part of the game if it turns out this way.

According to The Age defence article this morning, when comparing Dees and Tiges, both teams rank No. 1 for final 1/4 efforts.

Both have won all 5 last 1/4's

If its close both will think they have a chance - which will be true in fact.

I hope we have a very combative game.

Hit them all hard, give them no space, play angry.

Make it a we are here moment, great opportunity to set us as the team to beat.

Tigers by 4 goals.

We are not at that level yet.

The Tigers level of 2019 or 2020 was great, apart from the last 3 quarters of football, This Year 2021 Tigers are not near that level either. (Pardon my english.)  For most of this year they have been lower 8 level,  I hope they have been drinking their bath water more the we have been splashing in ours.

I would happily concede them the last quarter as long as we win the game.

You havent tipped us in one game yet.

Keep it up, its working well.

This is the litmus test game so far (as was the Geelong and hawks games at the time...)

Think our defence is solid, and provided we apply it well in the midfield we can hold the [censored] head forwards in Lynch and Riewoldt.  Their small forwards may get involved, but we can and should ensure that they get no easy possessions.  They dont like their own medicine so this will be the basis of success.

Next, we need to win the midfield.  Allowing the ball too often to be in their half is a recipe for disaster - the more we can create and win contests the better off we will be.  In addition, stopping half back run through intense pressure will stifle their ability to move the ball.  Gotta be hard at it here.

A great contest, with us finding enough avenues to goal and responding to repeated efforts of the Tigers (and their mates the maggots) to take a 24 point win.

We need to bring energy and intensity for 4 qrtrs. Forward pressure is the key, so last week's level of effort is not going to cut it.

Do or die Demons... Dig deep.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
