This is an unusal sponsorship. Bonds are a very niche market in Australia and not really for retail type clients so not sure what they would be getting out of the exposure.

As for IG, I suspect their agreement ran out. They probably got what they needed. I see their competitor CMC Markets sponsors the Saints which I assume is a direct result of IG sponsoring melbourne....FOMO

I share your concern jr.  Bonds are a niche market.   More so the Corporate Bond (not Government Bonds) which ABE deals in.

ABE started in 2015.  After a bit of googling I haven't found anything substantial about their performance.  Their 2020 report reads like a marketing spiel.  AGMFY20.pdf.

What they get out of the exposure:  my reading of their website is that they are targeting retail investors, in particular those near or at retirement age.  I suspect there would be lots of those in the mfc member ranks.  Hopefully, folks do their due diligence before investing in any new product with ABE or anyone else.

I think they're a bit like FIIG  - they cut and dice bonds/hybrids etc that are usually minimum parcel size of at least $500k so to create a market for retail investors, who are looking for something better than cash rates. Problem is when there is a market shock (ie GFC, Covid in March 2020), values tumble like shares. LH is bang on re DD.

I don't really have any concerns about them, just think its unusual. Not sure where they will get a return out of this.

As it turns out I know one of the guys on their website so I'll probably ask him next time I see him.

And yes they are a little like FIIG.

The principle of caveat emptor has been around for a long time. Always do your DD no matter who you are dealing with.

As a supporter all i care about is:

·         how much is the deal worth

·         have they the capacity to pay

Fascinating sponsorship. So they trade corporate bonds. I wonder if they are secondary market participants for government bonds. Fed gov bonds are the safest storer of wealth you can get. Corporate welfare on steroids.

They’ve done their market research, I’ll give them that.

Unfortunately I don’t fit the stereotype of the Melbourne supporter, so I’ll stick to my 40% off New Balance vouchers thanks.

I get that this is a niche sponsorship but in that being said, how many people here have bought a Jaguar since they became a sponsor of Melbourne or Vauxhaul before that?

It's not everday you decide to go out and buy a new car, especially with the only thought being oh they support Melbourne so I'll buy whatever they make.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
