I'm involved in a local sporting club in a different council but we'd hit Level 3 easy at  a minimum and could get Level 4 relatively easy so whilst our fees would increase it wouldn't be as hectic as some of the reported figures that seemingly haven't been adjusted with the subsidy. 

It seems City of Yarra undercharged for ground hire and haven't charged clubs for pavilion hire and an increase in fees may be required to bring some parity to other councils. E,g I saw some figures of local clubs in City of Yarra that are paying less than what my club pays in a different council.

The way they've gone about the increase is a bit too convoluted and they haven't helped themselves.

You'd hope with increased fees you'd get increased service and better facilities/pitches too.

It looks like from Hinds' article that Fitzroy would go close to ticking all those boxes. Makes me laugh when they're probably more diverse than the councilors pushing these initiatives. 

A small increase in fees might not be unreasonable but they've picked such an awful time to do it coming out of Covid with local sporting clubs really struggling.

It would've been better to announce either a freeze on fee increases or a possibly small rise this year, followed by giving clubs 12 months to meet targets to ensure they aren't disadvantaged next year.

Footy has it's own problems with government funding but the one thing it usually does well is make sure junior footy is cheap and available. There's no academies and special selection criteria that jack up prices for parents. It's usually just mums and dads having a go for their kids to play sports.

There’s a soccer pitch at end of Ramsden street, and another tucked between Heidelberg road, railway line and Merri creek, that are both “owned” by their clubs, many of whom members no longer reside in Yarra... 

the footy oval at the end of Ramsden is open (took fencing down) but also just got a cool new (exclusive) club house funded in part by council / local residents.

Inactivity is the killer.

Council should be working to get as many as possible out and about.

Not, generating a pay wall.

Yarra has just install a lot more bike lanes throughout the council, so they are not discouraging inactivity.

Bike lanes are very good.

Though getting to and off them from your destinations is still a problem.

Cars rule the bitumen and we take a deep breath of  CO and associated sulphur so as to brace when we venture as a commutor.  

Encourage all activities. 

Went to a greens meeting,  not one used a bike. All had the combustion engine.

When they walk the talk and not just imply "do as I say", and virtue signalling,  perhaps, I could believe that their politics is beyond the need to get power for powers sake. 

 

Another problem with bike lanes is the disrespectful users.

Bike clubs use them as speed ways.

Commutors shunt past pedestrians and slower riders with the narrowest of margins.

As a biker and pedestrian we need alot more work to make our paths safe.

I have not owned a car for around 30 years.

Time to form the Maroons political party and stand for council elections to toss out the greens. Then get rid of the obnoxious rating system. Since when does a junior sporting club have to prove their value to the community.

The best role for the council would be to produce a set of guidelines so that Kev and his mates can share the grounds in the area eg. stipulate when the grounds are reserved for the official organised sporting clubs who one would expect to assist in maintaining the grounds and when the ovals are free for others to use subject to a fair and transparent booking system.

This would not cater for the ad hoc games that appeal to Kev but would be a start. In any event, when I was young we were happy to play footy on any level grassy ground using school bags or jumpers for goals.

More strength to Joan and the team at Fitzroy FC.

I would be usurping these idiots and lobbying the Vic Govt & AFL.  Impossible to reason with Kumbuya FitzWickys.  They aren't living in the real world as we know it.

I pay rates to Stonnington my brother in Bayside Council.

We both have no children or drive cars.

The council does very little for us.

I've noticed that much of the public space is being used by the private schools.

The Council will continue to commodify and give it to the highest bidder.

Our community is stratified, with money and power being the impetuous. 

Poor kids will not be golfers, tennis players, yachtys', rowers, etcetera and now AFL players or any of the cheaper sports programs.

Arts and sports are for the privileged classes as is our educational and health systems.

Such is their entitled life and the unequal distribution of access.

That’s a good idea - have stipulated times, each club paying a proportionate amount of the upkeep fees, council pays the rest which ensures pick up games can take place at all other times.

Councils like this should stick to doing what they do best....

Speaking out on national issues they have no control of.

Destroying public assets for the benefit of no one in particular.

Promoting ethnic minorities who have not neccessarily asked for assistance to display their wokeness.

Handicapping  young men and discouraging them from participating in leadership positions.

Throwing rate payers money at the promotion of homosexuality 

Putting down dogs

Interfering in the running of successful businesses/venues

Self -promoting and slush fund splurging

Advertising for re-election with rate payers money.

Nobody wants a council to maintain parks,streets and public spaces,clean rubbish and provide efficient ,quiet service to the community.If an inner city council is not politicicising and grandstanding then they really should think about why they got into the job in the first place.
