AFLW: Rd 09 vs Brisbane

Featured Replies

Full time, hard fought win.

Heath big time plays, made for the pressure.

Hore and Gay, so composed.

Cunningham doing enough in the last.

Downie faded a bit, our backline kept tackling and pushing it out.

Hanks, Scott, great goals.

Paxman what an effort in the last. Doesn't take a back foot.

Need to fix up a few dinky handballs that didn't hit the mark and cost them in turnovers.

Great team win.

3 quarter time.

4. 1 to 6. 0 Brisbane way

Hard gut running football.

Melbourne don't give up. They are trying to construct a win, they are almost.

Hoping Brisbane fade in the lat.

Paxman back to midfield,  Scott in the forwardline.

Good call. You should play the lottery this weekend.

Resent an already posted riff.

They know how to win!

Is there a better attribute for a team to have? they never give up. So proud of them.

No team will want to play us in the finals.

Took the satisfaction of watching the final quarter.  Ahh, excellent.

Meanwhile, another fierce game from the little monster.  I know Lily Mithen is short, but didn't realise she was overcoming this much of a disadvantage.

Unfortunately Lily has not been in great form for about 3 games

Zge seems to get caught trying to dispose and falls over or is unceremoniously  dumped!

Dintvtjink it's confidence with her but lard hope she is back on her game in the Finals.

Good luck Lily

She's as brave as they come and tackles like a tiger but she needs to know her limitations. Don;t get too cute. Take the sensible first option and give the ball to someone who can use it better.

Just watched the replay on Kayo, such an exhilarating game.  We’ve now beaten 4 of the top 6 teams (North, Crows, Dockers, Lions).  Brisbane had 98 tackles so our girls were getting to the footy first.  Amazing that all our goals were excellent snaps from general play.  Scott’s 3,  Paxy’s second quarter long ranger and Bannan’s last quarter goal were all rippers but Tyla Hank’s goal showing her persistence, guile and checkside skills was the best!

This group is really working for each other.  Zanker into the midfield has been an inspired coaching move.  Home final next but against who?  Bring it on.

Have we played a finals game as an AFLW club as yet?

First appearance was last year i believe. Knocked over GWS in the semi final on their patch. Kicked 3 late goals to snatch it. Check out Lily Mithen's last minute goal. the farthest she's ever kicked it in her life i reckon. Balls of steel.

unfortunately season canned a few days later due to covid so never got to play the prelim.

ah that's right, for some reason I thought that was the last rnd of the season and it was then canned before finals.

Fingers crossed for Daisy.

@binman file away for discussion on podcast

Normal sized mids must hate coming up against her whilst ours must love playing with her. Does Rnd 6-9 form = All Australian form ?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
