Winger, winger, chicken dinner?!

Vanders offers little in attack but gives his utmost to keep pressure on around the contest and to fold back and support the defense. It happened in 2018 and happened again in 2020 that as soon as he was switched on to a wing we started looking like a side with competent structures more often than not. The other options have barely managed to do role playing tasks coaches ask of wingers these days and apart from a couple of nice goals from Baker have done little in attack to make up for it.

Who are the young players Goodwin has been holding back? Pickett played almost every game, Jackson got early footy, Rivers he kept out of a few games probably at the behest of the defensive coach and when someone like May says he's working on Rivers' positioning it's worth noting. Spargo's played, Fritsch's played. Petty's been injured. Jordon got injured before he could debut, Sparrow played before injury.

Baker hadn't had a full preseason and clearly had a lot of work to do on his fitness. The idea that he should've been gifted games until now just isn't right. You can argue that if he's much fitter now that we should just stick with him but through 2 preseason games it's not looking promising.

I'm certainly not suggesting Vanders be picked next week. If he is it's bad sign. But whoever does get picked has to do some of things he actually managed to do that helped the structure of the side. The coach hasn't stuck with him out of blind loyalty, he's just been the best of a lot of bad options.

Well I saw many of the Qld games at the Gabba and Metricon last year DS and really I Think  you are imagining His contribution. You are the first person to defend him and even point out these little extras that should be non negotiable for a winger.  I'd like to see the winger get 15 disposals and all the extras that any footballer is worth his salt. Unfortunately Vanders and th others are through fitness problems and age unable to contribute at a pace required for successful a AFL team.

One young player Goody Has stunted his career is Jay Lockhart and I have the feeling hw might stick to Jets instead of giving Bowey his debut. Jordan should be tried and U would probably also go with Sparrow if Gus is too underdone for instance.

I didn’t say he’s been good but compared with Tyson, Jones, Baker, half the 2019 list and so on he’s the only one who’s done the job.

*he's the only one who had a contract that was still running

I’m hoping Jordon can grow into the “non Landon” wing. Has a bit of outside run about him.

Id also like to see Tomlinson given another shot at the wing. After the 2020 season restart Tomlinson played wing and he played ok against Carlton but average in the MCG games against Geelong and Richmond (as was Langdon). Then he was dropped for a few weeks. So you could argue he wasn’t given a massive amount of opportunity to cement his wing spot.

And remember Tomlinson jagged a BOG 34 performance on the wing against Hawthorn in a 2020 practice match.

Really Turner you have been seduced by DS and the greatest load of rubbish about AVB. To say even he has approached any standard on the wing is complete Bias towards his output.

Unfortunately  AVB has fitness issues and his managed training each week restricts him and his tank to perform the role of winger. And the 1% ers he alleges give me a break!

For 2028 AVB inspired us in our run when returned to the team But that has been the last time he has played any meaningful footy fir us snd to dress it up otherwise is delusional.

Thats why we have inconsistent performances because Melky ANB and Jets are not even near their best but still being played by Goody!

If the players Want to look each other and be accountable then this is a start. For us to accept any of what  DS is alleging is misguided on what we expect.

Defending as he was the best of all of them is a complete cop out.

If you want gut running and trying ANB might be the one but ultimately it's his skills that let him Most times. Happy to see after last Monday ANZb be given a chance though.

I think this actually starts address why we have been so average at times.

Last year we had Melksham/AVB/Jetta all nowhere near their best....you can add Harmes/Brayshaw/Tmac to this list of underperforming players.

All senior players... that is 6 out of your best 22 and we cry that our bottom 6 need to get better.

These all are guys that should be driving standards i find it ridiculous that that seasoned footballers can be out of form for so long and the coach just continues to pick them.

This year i hope horribly out of form players are dropped after a week or two at most.

The younger, less experienced guys seem to always be the ones dropped, even though we have senior players regularly below the standard required.

It has to change otherwise Goodwin will be gone fairly quickly before he does any more damage to the MFC through his ridiculous selections.

Langdon and Brayshaw did well today

Both with 13 kicks and 5 marks

Langdon got his goal

Brayshaw missed his

Don't mind this set up

No he didn't.

i thought he improved after struggling with the pace early. he should be better for the run. he actually did a couple of nice kicks inside f50.

Yeah he had that one nice spot up inside 50, but otherwise his disposal was very poor, he mucked up a few simple things - one mark that cost us a goal - and I watched him closely all day and his defensive running/positioning was very poor. He's not on his own there with the defensive side of things of course though.

Gus got better than longer it went but isn’t the answer. He’s such a poor pressure player in general.

Harmes to the wing please. Try Jordon there if we can. He’s a willing tackler.

Chandler’s small but fit, skilled and smart, let’s give him a go on the wing at Casey.

Still got good hopes for Jackson if we get our big forwards firing.

It was great to see Hunt and Langdon run the footy and create opportunities for our forwards by breaking the lines. Some of the names still in the list of players who might be open to a new opportunity at the Dees. Due to injuries or lack of opportunity, they are outside their current teams but have the potential to offer the Dees that extra run and delivery into the forward 50.

David Cunningham  Blues

Matthew Ling   Swans

Kane Farrell   Power

and of course have to keep watch out for Will Bravo who was imv unlucky to not be drafted last year (quick and good skills)

3 very average players, 3 non premiership contending players,

Lipinski, ERichards, Zerrett would be my gettable options

All considered but ...

I think Lipinski was a Dogs supporters growing up. Fitting into Dogs team as is.

Richards is out injured this year and I think he’d be looking at the Pies if he was to be moving.

Zerrett or Merrett will be a huge cost and unlikely to fit into our salary cap right now.

Perhaps Toby McLean if he recovers from his injury.  Quick and loves a goal.

Watch this space... Dees very interested & Lipinski exploring options with limited midfield opportunity at the Dogs
