2020 Player Reviews: #30 Alex Neal-Bullen

Hard running on-baller/forward struggled for consistency and had his season marred by a four-week suspension for an illegal sling tackle.

Date of Birth: 9 January, 1996

Height: 182cm

Weight: 80kg

Games MFC 2020: 7

Career Total: 80

Goals MFC 2020: 7

Career Total: 64

Hard runner and worker can fault that

Would be more in favour if he kicked goals early in the game when he gets a few opportunities seems to miss about 2 goals a geme

Unreliable goal sence

Maybe there are currently few better small forward options Needs consistency

In the Mitch Hannan set of things. Plays well every 5 or so games.

Kicking for goal improved dramatically late in the season. Went from one of our worst to the most reliable. Go figure.

He got stitched up for that sling tackle. 2 games was about right 4 was very harsh.

Had his moments besides but just doesn't get his hands on it enough. Consistency isn't there. I'm ambivalent about whether we keep him or let him go.

ANB’s goal kicking accuracy was good this year with 7.0 and 64.41 over his entire career which is not too bad at all.

I wouldn’t be upset if we retain him next year.

Neal-Bullen is just depth, but good depth in that you know what he is going to deliver most weeks. The retention of Hunt probably doesn't help his cause for a new deal next year, although you'd think he would be looking for more regular opportunities elsewhere.

I like Alex he works his but off but seems to drop off after half time. He had a brilliant 2018 so we know he has it in him if we get the mix and intensity right. I would be happy for him to stay but also a bit ambivalent if he decides to go back to SA.

I am ambivalent about Alex.

I love his work ethic and second efforts, but he remains very inconsistent.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
