Rumours circulating on Bigfooty that we're targeting Bulldogs pick 14.

So are a bunch of other clubs.  They all know that Bulldogs want to dump it.

I'd be surprised if they trade it now.  More value to them if they trade it post Trade close and before Draft night.

Don't the Dockers have a couple of highly rated kids in the NGA, wonder if they are willing to part with pick 12

Dockers do have a couple of good ones there, but probably expected to go really late first or in the second round. They should be looking to keep 12 but get some later picks in.  They already carried a points deficit into this year following the matched bid for Henry.

Good point. I assumed it was happening soon, but that would make sense.

Is Mccrae as our draft target real or has it become DL folklore?

Pick #14 is unlikely to get him once the top NGA/FS/Academy picks are taken.  It will be pick ~#20.

Mccrae is talked about mid 1st round pick so we need to target current picks 6-10.  Heaven help us if that means dealing with Essendon...

Also it is worth remembering that picks can be traded between when the player trade period closes and draft night.  Then again 'live' on draft night.

Interesting point, Luce. Has anyone from the club commented on McCrae?

Getting into the first round today or tomorrow could also mean doing something before or on draft night depending on who we are after and how picks fall.

I don't think so.

I can't recall if his name was raised on here by an 'informed' poster or a wishful thinking poster.

If so pick #14 won't get it done it once the top NGA/FS/Academy picks are taken.  It will be pick 18- 20.

This is from a few months ago, so possibly could have changed a fair bit, but MFC had Macrae going at pick 12 originally, with 4 Academy picks being used before him.

Bit of both. There were rumors we were keen on him, but it seems to have blown up a bit on here.

I'd wager we're after him or Archie Perkins, who is a lively mid/half forward with good burst of pace, good agility, good leap and hits the scoreboard. If we get pick 14, one of them might make it to our pick and would be gold.

Last year we did both.  iirc we traded future 1st to North during the trade period then did a pick swap with Freo before draft night.

So we are quite adept at working the system (in an honest way).

Probably wishful thinking. But that being the case, they'd surely be better going for a pick swap live on trade night. If McCrae goes earlier in the draft than anticipated, they might be better off keeping the two (?) picks for players Taylor likes in the 20's. They'd have a plan B for sure.

Or perhaps the rule is no pick swaps to avoid academy bids on draft night??? I don't know

Thinking a bit more about how Bulldogs can maximise value of pick 14.

There is little value swapping it for later 2020 picks as either way the points get swallowed up by their NGA player.

They will get more value if they trade it out for some combo of player/2020 later picks/future picks.

So I doubt they will simply swamp it for 2020 picks.

They will if they can get a premium of points - that the AFL allow.

Shame we couldn't have worked the Hannah deal into it, assuming the Bullies pick was the target. Says to me we might be going for a higher pick than 14

Edit. Wonder if the club tried to work Preuss + picks for #10? I hope we are not trading our 2021 1st rounder

Not sure how that will work.  The AFL has a rule that a NGA/Academy club can't have more draft picks than they have list spots.  (Not sure if rule applies to F/S)

If I was them I would trade/swap it out for future picks as it is said to be a very strong draft.  They get their guy this year and another very good one next year.

Which other clubs with top 10 picks also have F/S or academy targets who'd go top 10?

Sydney. They potentially have two.

AFAIK they've got 14 (1161), 41 (412), 54 (220) = 1793 this year

If JUH gets bid at 1 by Adelaide they need 2400, i.e. they're 600 short.  They need to make that up with some combination of:

  • Trade 14 at a premium for more points than its value
  • Trade a player for a pick this year
  • Trade a 2021 pick for a 2020 pick
  • Go into deficit in 2021 (which comes off their first pick)

So would we deal them in this year for their 2021 round 1 pick..?

Others know more about the draft than me, but I think it's likely:

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan - Bulldogs
Braeden Campbell - Sydney
Reef McInnes - Collingwood

Then possibly around the mark:
Alex Davies - GC
Lachlan Jones - Port

Might be old info though. @dazzledavey36is usually pretty onto it.

they still have 9 OOC so expect them to open up some spots especially with so many similar types there

swans and dons but they're expected later after their current 2 1st picks

Errol Gulden - swans is in the first round range and also Davies doesn't need a bid he can be pre-listed as a rookie by the suns under their concessions from last season. so they'll prelist him and Jeffries and then use pick 5 and thats their list full

I cant see how this can work.

We currently have more picks than list spots. Why can't they?

If the dogs have 3 spots and 3 picks on draft night but then pick an academy player with pick 1, then they'll lose all 3 picks (points cost will be all of them) and will have their other 2 picks at the end of the draft.
