I can accept the second part.  If we balls it up next year then you could hardly blame him.

However, I sit firmly in the camp that he hasn't even gotten that far down the road.  As I've said, I can accept the frustration he is feeling.  I don't blame him one bit.

As for the journos, it was a couple who claimed they heard 'whispers'.  The others spoke to Oliver and the club directly.  I'll take that more seriously than the other ones based on that.

The President has weighed in on Clayton Oliver.

On Oliver, who has been rumoured to be unhappy and on the radar of Carlton, Bartlett gave the strongest indication yet the midfielder would be at the Demons next year and reaffirmed the club’s interest in Ben Brown.

”Clarry will be playing for Melbourne,” he said.

“We love Clayton Oliver…"

Melbourne has to decide whether this group can win a premiership in the next five years. I say no, but the club probably believes it can, so are unlikely to do anything bold like seeing what offers would come in by putting Clayton Oliver on the trade table.

That would shock some people, but clubs need to think outside the box – you never know what possibilities and opportunities will present to improve your list and get the types of players you need to take the next step.

Oliver is a great player but there are a few knocks on his game. He handballs too often and puts his teammates under pressure.
So, he doesn’t really hurt the opposition like the great midfielders do. I think he can be replaced.

You obviously wouldn’t do the deal unless an offer too good to refuse came up, but it’s food for thought. Be bold because this list has stagnated.

It's so easy to predict future performance.

if club finishes top 4 = premiership contender

if club finish top 6 = top 4 contender

if club finishes top 8 = changes needed

if club finishes anywhere 9th-10th = not up for it.

The prediction analysis is the same every year. Same with ladder predictions.

This is interesting and while not the intention of his comments, it does highlight what others have mentioned about Oliver. And that is, if rumours of wanting to play in a successful team are true, well so much of realising that at the MFC are hugely in Olivers control. I rate him very highly but he can be even better. And further improvement from Oliver would help us move towards the next level. Like our other mids, if his improvement was centred around how he leverages his strengths to compliment the strengths of our other mids then we would improve in leaps and bounds.

I guess we'll see what he's really made of over the next 12 months.

So Buckenara is suggesting we trade one of our Top 2 midfielders (at the ripe old age of 23) if it meant getting something too good to refuse?  And what would that be?  A couple of first round draft picks?  So that we can develop them to potentially become one of our Top 2 midfielders?

I honestly don't know what sort of offer would have to be made for me to consider letting him go.  And I mean something that would be realistic.

These sort of trade suggestions make absolutely no sense to me.

I think Oliver can take a look at Neals brownlow speech, when he said the coaches wanted him to brake away from the stoppage with ball in hand then kick or handball get more yardage and free up team mates or have a shot for goal

Oliver is absolutely key to our premiership chance, as G.Lyon said probably already the best Demons midfielder ever, and he is still learning
