Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

While Neeld tried to crack the soft culture and that was his initial pitch I imagine, simple he did not have the skills to do it.  Though there was massive problems with the culture.

You can only pus the players as far as they trust you, he had no trust, he hadn't earned it yet.

Neeld trying to change the Mfc culture is like the Liberals under economic John Hewson arguing for the GST...and losing that election.

Hewson needed all the support his team could give him,  to carry the right decisions through.   He did not get enough team support to do the job that needed doing.  And it all fell apart.

Similarly,  Neeld was on his way to crushing what we all know was a lousy culture,  and a lazy playing list that was happy to take the money for little.  He barely got started,  and they failed to Back hIm up,  with his attack on the sour culture which we all endured.

The truth is we will never know what he could have achieved,  because everyone panicked when the playing group bucked up a pulled that 186 stunt.

This showed how much the tail was already wagging the dog. And no wonder why we could not develop our young players. With a culture like that.

We failed to develop most kids from the mid/late 90's,   Trapper just one.  Mclean, Sylvia, Bate...  A huge lack of discipline and healthy culture.

For the record Daniher 98-06 made 2 prelims in 98, 2000 inc GF along with finals 02,04,05,06. Not sure if you haven't developed your list you would play in 6 final series. Club fell apart in 07 with mounting debts followed by poor appointments across all footy depts inc CEO, President inc coaches, tanking saga screwed our culture, poor recruitment inc development & finally Neeld!

Of course we did,  make finals...  we've made finals many times since md8's.   So you think we cannot get to that point on talent alone, even with poor culture.?

Do you think a more talented team can be beaten by a more disciplined unit,  in finals and grand finals.?

The issue with Mfc in the early 90's,  was we had a lot of talent,  but weak on culture side,  and this is why we didn't win silverware.

Moving thru the 90's, our ability to develop our young recruits dropped away,  and continued to be an issue thru the early 2000's.  Until we just ran out of natural talent.   And faced a whole list rebuild.

We failed to develop our kids to be their best,  and they only developed to their natural level, which they could have done at suburban footy.  And attitudes that let the slacken off when they felt like it.  Lack of Pro attitudes.

We witnessed much of this self oriented attitudes thru the 2000's,  which eventually really showed out when  '186'  happened along.  This is an attitude that blames others for the teams woes,  rather than each individual taking their responsibilities as serious as they can do.   None of the players were without blame of that action.  As were the top admins, equally to blame via their preceding actions.

But that was coming on slowly,  for over 10Yrs of mismanagement.  The club had been a mess for ages, but where trading on talents from the 90's decade.

The development of the 2000's recruits was the worst since the early 90's.

Don't disagree  the issue with the club especially after the failed merger is that Hawks actually developed long term strategies both off & on the field & really professionalised  their club from a financial view to getting a proper home training base. The MFC continued with band aid choices always trying to stay afloat hence poor appointments across the footy dept & look its 2020 & still no home base. I believe Daniher once said they to train with witches hats for goal posts across multiple training grounds! How he got the team to play finals is amazing! Whilst Collingwood snapped up the old glass house Olympic Park!!!!

IMO, backed up by really poor results over my lifetime, is from the very top, we've had a going nowhere attitude.  (apart for Richard Seddons time at the top)...  where things were being truly taken on.

But he 'RS',  left the post too soon,  when momentum was just picking up..  possibly he was Too optimistic a person,  and thought things would continue to grow.  We needed a few of his ilk at the same time,   driving the club forward.

Most other times,  it seems an attitude of  "business as usual",  was near enough for most of our Boards...   lack of vision.   I believe it seems that a total lack of vision was used across decades.

I imagine that this lacking vision was the conservative ideal of having everything we ever dreamed of within the  'G'...  every board members dream  (rubbing elbows at the 'G')  to overcome their Boredom.

In this way,  I believe we cannot trust future boards,  Not to be infected by the same inactive virus caused by the love of the 'G'...

IMO, we need our Home base like this Mfc needs a pair of Balls... to give it direction,  moving forward/up-ward.  Lets stop sitting to 'P'...

The Homebase complete with Boardroom,  will Establish Our own Identity once and for-all.

Thats the first.  Then  Our boards directors,  will change nature IMO.   More directors will be elected,  who love the Mfclub, more than the status of the 'G'...and will be making better footy type decisions, operating from our HomeBase.

It will become more a Footy club,  rather than a Hybrid,  of Mcc and simply  'G' patronage.

For We are the mighty Dees...  not the Mcc's,  and not the mighty 'G's_

Garry was more influential in his games. He had a bigger impact in games earlier in his career. Neitz was no slouch but he really started to be more impactful from 96.

Garry was moved on the ball when the game was in the balance, and he was very effective as a pinch hitter.

David was moved to the backline when we needed to stem the flow, but he was most valuable as a forward target - decoy or prime.

Garry's back ruined his last years and David was only majorly impacted in his last year.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
